Planned power interruptions set for April 9 in multiple counties

Residents in several counties across the country should prepare for scheduled power interruptions on Thursday, April 9, 2026, as Kenya Power undertakes routine maintenance to improve electricity reliability.

In a notice issued ahead of the exercise, the utility firm said the temporary outages are necessary to facilitate system upgrades and strengthen the national grid.

Nairobi and Kiambu Counties Among Areas Affected

In Nairobi County, parts of Parklands and Umoja will experience power outages during the day.

The interruption in Parklands will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting areas such as General Mathenge, Ring Road, Mpaka Road, Wangapala Road, and surrounding customers.

In Umoja, the outage will begin earlier at 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with areas including St. Veronica Catholic Church, Umoja 2 Zone 8, Tumaini School, and nearby premises affected.

Meanwhile, in Kiambu County, areas in Kibichoi and Komothai will also be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting trading centres, schools, and nearby homes.


Mt Kenya and Eastern Regions to Experience Disruptions

In Nyeri County, parts of Thangathi and Kiuu will face outages from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting areas such as Ithanjii, Gataro, Kiuu, Gitino, Mbugwa, and Nguyoini.

Similarly, in Kitui County, areas including Migwani, Musuani, and Kyamboo will also experience power cuts starting from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., impacting markets, schools, and surrounding customers.

Coast Region Counties Also Listed

In the Coast region, several counties will be affected, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, and Tana River.

Parts of Nyali, Bombolulu, and Kisauni in Mombasa County will experience outages between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., affecting residential estates, schools, and businesses.

In Kilifi County, areas in Kakonen and Jilore will be affected during the same hours.

Meanwhile, in Taita Taveta County, locations such as Sikujua, Mwakingali, Tausa, Lukasinya, and Mlundinyi will experience day-long outages.

In Tana River County, parts of Masalani will also be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Kisii County Areas to Experience Day-Long Outage

In Kisii County, parts of Keroka Town, Ichuni, Nyanturago, Nyangweta, Etago, and Ekona will face interruptions from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Affected areas include schools, markets, trading centres, and surrounding homes, as maintenance teams work on the network.

Kenya Power Urges Customers to Plan Ahead

Kenya Power has advised customers in all affected areas to plan accordingly and take necessary precautions to minimize inconvenience.

The company encouraged residents and businesses to switch off electrical appliances during the outage and monitor official communication channels for updates.

The utility firm reiterated that the maintenance works are part of ongoing efforts to enhance electricity reliability and reduce unexpected blackouts across the country.

Power supply is expected to be restored once the maintenance exercise is complete.
