President William Ruto has announced a major milestone in the transformation of the capital city, unveiling plans for a modern arena and entertainment district in central Nairobi under the Nairobi Railway City Project.
Speaking at State House during the signing of a lease agreement between Zaria Group and Kenya Railways Corporation, Ruto said the development is a critical step toward positioning Nairobi as a leading global destination for sports, culture, and commerce.
“This development will position the capital’s CBD as a premier hub for sports, entertainment, culture, and commerce across East Africa and the world,” Ruto stated.
A Vision for a Modern Nairobi
The Head of State emphasized that the project is part of a broader vision to modernize Nairobi’s urban infrastructure and unlock its economic potential. According to him, the arena and entertainment district will complement other flagship developments within the Nairobi Railway City masterplan.
“The construction of a modern arena and entertainment district in central Nairobi marks a significant milestone toward the realisation of the Nairobi Railway City Project,” he said.
Ruto noted that the project is structured as a long-term partnership, aligning with Kenya’s national infrastructure priorities while strengthening the capital’s global competitiveness.

Integrated Development Strategy
The President highlighted that the arena project is designed to work in synergy with other ongoing developments, including Talanta Stadium and the Bomas International Convention Complex, forming a comprehensive ecosystem for events, tourism, and business.
“Structured as a long-term partnership, the project aligns with Kenya’s national infrastructure priorities and completes the ecosystem we are building around the Talanta Stadium and the Bomas International Convention Complex,” he added.
Jobs and Economic Impact
Beyond infrastructure, the project is expected to deliver significant economic benefits, including job creation and increased investment in Nairobi’s central business district.
“The project will be delivered within 12 months and will create up to 25,000 jobs annually,” Ruto said.
The development is expected to stimulate growth in sectors such as hospitality, transport, retail, and creative industries, further cementing Nairobi’s role as a regional economic powerhouse.

Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships
The signing of the lease agreement marks a formal commitment between the government and private sector partners to deliver the ambitious project.
“At State House, Nairobi, [we] witnessed the signing of a lease agreement between Zaria Group and Kenya Railways Corporation, formalising the commitment to this vision,” Ruto stated.
The initiative underscores the government’s push to leverage public-private partnerships in accelerating infrastructure development and urban renewal.
