KUCCPS explains ‘Not Yet Placed’ portal message after student panic

Date:

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has moved to calm anxious students after some applicants noticed their portal status had changed to “Not Yet Placed” despite previously receiving provisional placement.

The clarification came after concerns emerged from students following the second revision of university and college choices.

One applicant questioned why the unexpected message appeared on the KUCCPS portal even after securing a provisional placement during the main revision exercise.

KUCCPS reassures affected students

In response, KUCCPS assured students that there was no reason for alarm, explaining that applicants who had already secured provisional placement would still receive their final placement details.

“If you have already secured a provisional placement, there is no cause for alarm. You will be informed of the exact programme and university in July 2026,” KUCCPS stated.

The clarification is expected to ease fears among thousands of students who had raised concerns over the sudden portal changes.

KUCCPS reopened revision portal

The update comes days after KUCCPS reopened its application portal to allow 2025 KCSE candidates to revise their university choices or submit fresh applications.

The placement agency announced that the portal would remain open for a limited period to give students another opportunity to secure placement into available programmes.

KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Mercy Wahome urged eligible students who had not applied or failed to secure placement in the first round to take advantage of the reopening.

“We call upon all 2025 Form Four leavers who qualified for degree programmes but have not yet applied, as well as those who applied but did not secure a course, to log into the system and reapply,” Wahome said.

Competitive courses fully booked

KUCCPS revealed that highly competitive programmes such as Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Engineering were fully subscribed during the first application phase due to overwhelming demand.

As a result, the courses were removed from the portal after all available slots were taken up.

Students who missed out on the programmes were encouraged to explore alternative courses still available across universities and colleges.

Over 212,000 students apply

According to KUCCPS, more than 212,000 students who scored grade C+ and above in the 2025 KCSE examinations had submitted applications by the time of the update.

The figure represents over 79 per cent of candidates who attained the minimum university entry grade.

Alongside degree placements, KUCCPS said it is also processing continuous admissions into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTC), and Kenya Utalii College.

The placement agency urged students to regularly monitor official KUCCPS communication channels for updates regarding placement results and application timelines.
