President William Ruto has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing infrastructure development as a key driver of economic transformation and improved livelihoods.
Speaking during an inspection tour in Taita-Taveta County, the Head of State said ongoing road projects in the region are set to enhance connectivity, ease transport, and unlock economic potential.
Major Road Projects Underway
Ruto inspected the 55-kilometre Mto Mwagodi–Dawida–Mbale–Wundanyi–Bura Junction road in Mwatate, noting that the project will significantly improve movement of goods and people across the county.
“The government is advancing key infrastructure projects to drive economic transformation and improve livelihoods,” Ruto said during the visit.
He also highlighted progress on the Illasit–Rombo–Njukini–Taveta road, where 20 kilometres out of the planned 60 kilometres have already been completed.
Expanding Connectivity in the Region
The President further noted that construction of the Cess–Lake Jipe road is ongoing, adding to a network of projects aimed at opening up remote areas and boosting trade.
In addition, the Maungu–Kasigau road has reached the procurement stage, with the tender already advertised, while funding has been secured for the Voi–Sagalla road.
Ruto emphasized that the projects are part of a broader national infrastructure agenda designed to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and improve access to essential services.
Boost to Local Economy
Leaders in the region have welcomed the developments, saying improved road infrastructure will enhance trade, tourism, and agricultural productivity in Taita-Taveta.
The projects are also expected to create employment opportunities for local communities during both construction and operational phases.
As the government accelerates infrastructure rollout, the President reiterated that no region will be left behind in the push to modernize Kenya’s transport network.
