ODM pledges transparent primaries as race to 2027 elections gains momentum

Date:

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has moved to calm internal competition ahead of the 2027 General Election, promising a transparent and credible nomination process for all aspirants.

Speaking during a party engagement in Sero, Gladys Wanga, who also serves as ODM chairperson, assured members that the party will uphold fairness and give every aspirant an equal opportunity to contest for its ticket.

“All aspirants will be given a fair chance, and ultimately, it is the voters who will decide,” Wanga said.

Push for grassroots mobilisation

Wanga emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement, urging those seeking ODM tickets to actively connect with voters on the ground.

She noted that building trust and support among constituents will be key in determining who secures the party’s endorsement, reinforcing the party’s bottom-up approach to leadership selection.

The directive signals ODM’s intention to anchor its nominations on popular support rather than boardroom decisions.

Focus on unity and party strength

At the same time, the party leadership reiterated its commitment to maintaining unity as competition intensifies ahead of the polls.

Wanga described the protection of ODM’s internal cohesion as a top priority, warning against divisions that could weaken the party’s influence nationally.

She said the party is keen on safeguarding its traditional strongholds while also working to sustain and expand its parliamentary presence.

Call for discipline among aspirants

The ODM chairperson also urged members and aspirants to uphold discipline, respect, and decorum throughout the nomination period.

She cautioned against political hostility and internal conflicts, noting that a peaceful nomination process would strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

ODM, one of Kenya’s leading political parties, is expected to play a key role in shaping the next electoral cycle, with its nomination process likely to attract intense interest across the country.
