Tana River UDA aspirants caution against interference ahead of grassroots polls

Date:

Youth leaders and grassroots political aspirants affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Tana River County have issued a warning over alleged attempts to interfere with the party’s grassroots elections scheduled for April 23.

In a joint statement, the aspirants condemned what they described as emerging schemes by rival factions to derail the electoral process, cautioning that any disruption would undermine democratic values within the party.

They emphasised the need for the elections to proceed in a credible manner, calling for transparency, fairness, and adherence to the rule of law throughout the exercise.

Warning against sabotage and interference

The group raised alarm over reports of planned interference, describing such actions as unacceptable and a direct threat to the integrity of the elections.

They cautioned individuals allegedly involved in the schemes, stating that any attempts to manipulate or disrupt the process would not only affect party unity but also erode public trust.

According to the aspirants, safeguarding the credibility of the elections is essential in strengthening internal democracy and ensuring legitimate leadership at the grassroots level.

Party supporters gather during a previous UDA political event in the county.

Concerns over rising political tensions

The remarks come amid increasing political activity in the coastal county as UDA prepares for the polls, which are expected to shape the party’s local leadership structure.

The aspirants noted that the elections present an opportunity to empower grassroots members and reinforce accountability within the party, urging all stakeholders to act responsibly.

They further warned that acts of political intolerance or interference could derail progress and compromise efforts to promote inclusive governance.

Call for peaceful and transparent elections

The leaders appealed to party members, officials, and security agencies to ensure a peaceful environment before, during, and after the elections.

They maintained that a transparent process would not only strengthen the party’s structures but also reflect its commitment to democratic principles.

As preparations continue, attention now shifts to how the party will manage internal competition and uphold credibility in what is shaping up to be a closely watched grassroots exercise.
