UDA announces party primaries for Ol Kalou by-election

Date:

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced the dates for its party nominations following the declaration of a vacancy in the position of Member of the National Assembly for Ol Kalou Constituency in Nyandarua County.

In an official notice issued by the party’s National Elections Board, UDA confirmed that party primaries will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, as it prepares to field a candidate in the upcoming by-election.

Registration window opens

The party has invited interested aspirants to submit their applications through its official online platform.

According to the notice, registration will begin on Monday, April 27, 2026, and close on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

All applicants are required to register via the UDA party portal at www.uda.ke, where they will also complete the nomination process.

Digital application process

UDA has emphasized that the nomination process will be conducted digitally, requiring aspirants to:

  • Register through the party portal
  • Complete the application process online
  • Pay the required nomination fees via the integrated system

The party noted that registration will only be considered complete once both the application and payment are successfully processed.

Nomination requirements and conditions

The notice further outlines key conditions for those seeking to contest under the UDA ticket.

Public officers intending to vie in the by-election must resign from their positions on or before April 30, 2026, in line with electoral regulations.

Additionally, the party has set nomination fees, with standard applicants required to pay a higher fee, while women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will benefit from a reduced rate.

Political contest expected

The Ol Kalou seat is expected to attract significant political interest, with multiple parties likely to field candidates in what is shaping up to be a competitive by-election in the Mt. Kenya region.

UDA’s early announcement of its nomination timelines signals the party’s intent to consolidate its presence in Nyandarua County and rally support ahead of the polls.

Next steps

Following the primaries, the party will submit its nominee to the electoral body for clearance ahead of the by-election.

Political analysts expect the race to test party influence in the region, especially amid growing competition among major political players.
