A new survey by Kenya Track has ranked Nairobi County Members of Parliament based on constituency development, education support, youth empowerment and overall service delivery, placing several lawmakers under the spotlight ahead of the 2027 political season.
The survey paints a picture of growing competition among Nairobi legislators, with voters increasingly focusing on visible development projects, bursary programmes and youth-focused initiatives.
Mejja Donk Tops Nairobi Ranking
Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru, popularly known as Mejja Donk, emerged as the top-performing MP in Nairobi County.
According to the survey, his leadership has been largely associated with grassroots development projects, particularly road rehabilitation, drainage improvement and support for small-scale traders within the constituency.
The report also highlighted his bursary programme, which has supported students in secondary schools and vocational training institutions, alongside youth empowerment projects targeting employment and entrepreneurship.
Residents interviewed during the survey reportedly praised the lawmaker’s visibility on the ground and direct engagement with community issues.
Babu Owino Maintains Strong Influence
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino secured the second position, with the survey pointing to his strong education-focused agenda.
Babu Owino has built a political brand around scholarship and bursary programmes, which have enabled many students from vulnerable families to access education opportunities.
The survey further noted that the legislator continues to attract attention through youth mentorship programmes, talent development initiatives and active participation in national debates on education funding and student welfare.
His influence among young voters and university students remains one of the strongest in Nairobi politics.
Karauri’s Digital and Innovation Agenda Earns Praise
Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri was ranked third, with respondents citing his focus on innovation, digital transformation and youth entrepreneurship.
The lawmaker has invested heavily in technology and innovation hubs aimed at nurturing startups and digital talent among young people.
The survey also credited Karauri for supporting sports development programmes and linking bursary support with digital skills training to improve employability among students.
Other MPs Recognised
Embakasi North MP James Gakuya took fourth place, with the report highlighting his work on road upgrades, drainage systems and market improvements.
Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi followed closely, earning recognition for championing disability inclusion, accessibility and youth sports initiatives within the constituency.
Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi was ranked sixth, with the survey noting her focus on women empowerment, healthcare access and grassroots social support programmes.
Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje secured seventh position due to his efforts in youth employment programmes, vocational training and infrastructure improvement projects.
Focus on Infrastructure and Social Welfare
Starehe MP Amos Mwago ranked eighth after respondents cited his support for informal traders, road rehabilitation and drainage expansion projects in densely populated estates.
Embakasi South MP Julius Mawathe also featured prominently for initiatives targeting informal settlement upgrading, healthcare access and youth sports development.
Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie Waweru completed the top 10 list, with the survey recognising his focus on digital literacy, civic engagement and support for the creative economy.
Education Emerges as Key Political Tool
The Kenya Track survey concluded that bursary programmes remain the single most important factor shaping public perception of MPs across Nairobi County.
Most legislators ranked highly due to their investment in education support, youth empowerment and visible infrastructure projects.
The findings are expected to intensify political competition in Nairobi as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, where development records and grassroots visibility are likely to play a major role in voter decisions.
