The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with child protection organisation Marici Kenya to strengthen efforts to combat child trafficking, child sexual exploitation and other forms of abuse.
The agreement, signed by DCI Director Mohamed Amin and Marici Kenya Chief Executive Officer Benson Shamala, aims to enhance collaboration in protecting vulnerable children while improving investigations and institutional responses to trafficking cases.
Partnership to strengthen child protection
Under the agreement, the two organisations will work together to improve investigative capacity, strengthen child protection systems, increase public awareness and promote survivor-centred interventions.
The partnership will also focus on community engagement, institutional capacity building and coordinated responses to emerging threats affecting children across the country.
According to the DCI, the collaboration represents a significant milestone in strengthening Kenya’s efforts to combat child exploitation and trafficking through joint action.
DCI reaffirms commitment
Speaking during the signing ceremony, DCI Director Mohamed Amin reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting children from exploitation and abuse.
He described the partnership as an important step towards safeguarding vulnerable children while ensuring perpetrators of trafficking and child exploitation are brought to justice.
Focus on survivor support
Marici Kenya CEO Benson Shamala said the agreement reflects a shared commitment to strengthening child protection systems and ensuring survivors receive the support, care and justice they deserve.
He noted that the organisation works to prevent child sexual exploitation and trafficking by supporting investigations, strengthening institutional capacity, raising community awareness and promoting survivor-focused programmes.
Coordinated response against trafficking
The partnership is expected to combine the expertise of both institutions to enhance prevention, improve investigations and reinforce a coordinated national response to child trafficking and exploitation.
Officials said the collaboration will contribute to stronger protection mechanisms for children while improving the country’s ability to respond to trafficking and abuse cases through closer cooperation between law enforcement and child protection stakeholders.
