Date:

Kenya Power has announced a planned power interruption affecting parts of the Nairobi Region and the Central Rift Region on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, to facilitate routine maintenance and system upgrades across its electricity network.

In the Nairobi Region, the outage will affect parts of Kajiado County, particularly Ongata Rongai and surrounding areas, from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

The areas scheduled for interruption include the entire stretch of Gataka Road from Masai Mall, Kisumu Ndogo, Beacon of Hope, Nakeel Schools, Oloolaiser Water Offices, Wangugu/Melony Road, Barizi, Kwa Mwai, Gataka Shopping Centre, sections of Oloolua Forest, Mayor Road, Hass Petrol Station, and neighboring customers.

The maintenance is expected to disrupt normal activities for households, businesses, schools, and water facilities within these locations.

In the Central Rift Region, Kenya Power has listed parts of Kericho County, specifically Kuresoi North Sub-County, for the same maintenance window running from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Affected areas include Murund Market, Kibaraa Market, Kipkoris Market, Kipkewa Market, Kongoi Market, Mawingu Market, Koraboriet Market, as well as adjacent customers.

These areas are key commercial and agricultural centers, and the outage may temporarily affect trading, agro-processing, and service delivery.

Kenya Power says the scheduled interruptions are necessary to allow technicians to carry out line maintenance, equipment installation, and network upgrades that cannot be safely undertaken while electricity supply is live.

The utility has urged customers in the affected regions to plan ahead, switch off sensitive appliances, and make alternative arrangements during the outage period.

Customers seeking additional information or real-time updates have been advised to use Kenya Power’s official customer service platforms, including dialing *977#, visiting the company website, or engaging through Kenya Power Care digital channels.
