Kenya Power announces scheduled power outages across several regions on April 21

Several parts of the country are set to experience scheduled electricity interruptions on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, as Kenya Power undertakes routine maintenance to improve service delivery and stabilize the power network. The planned outages will affect multiple counties across different regions, with most interruptions expected to last between morning and evening hours.

Nairobi Region

In Nairobi, power interruptions will affect areas around Madaraka and Siwaka from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Residents and businesses near Strathmore and surrounding estates should prepare for a full-day outage.

Another section along Kingara Road will also experience outages during the same hours. Affected locations include parts of Mbaazi Road, Naivas Supermarket Mbaazi Avenue, Merlin Court, MAC Apartments, Ebru TV Station, and sections of Gitanga and James Gichuru roads.

Mt. Kenya Region

In Nyeri County, areas such as Witima and Kagumo will be without power from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Markets, coffee factories, schools, and nearby residential areas are expected to be affected.

Parts of Laikipia County, including Kangaita Market and nearby institutions, will also face similar outages within the same time frame.

Meanwhile, in Murang’a County, areas like Ndithini, Kaguku, and Kirimiri will experience power interruptions affecting markets, villages, and surrounding neighborhoods.

In Embu County, several locations including Kivaa, Masinga, and Kaewa will be impacted, with outages covering trading centres, schools, and residential zones.

North Eastern Region

Parts of Kitui County, particularly Kisasi and Ikanga areas, will also be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Markets, schools, and local communities within these regions should expect interruptions throughout the day.

North Rift Region

In Uasin Gishu County, Chepketet and Labuiywet areas will experience outages from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., affecting households and businesses in the region.

Western Region

Parts of Bungoma County, including Kuywa and Chwele Market, will be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Schools, markets, and surrounding communities are expected to be impacted.

Machakos County

In Machakos County, extensive outages will occur along Wote Road from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The interruption will affect multiple institutions including schools, markets, and residential areas across a wide stretch of the county.

What Customers Should Do

Kenya Power advises customers in the affected areas to plan ahead by switching off electrical appliances to avoid damage when power is restored. Businesses are encouraged to make alternative arrangements where possible to minimize disruptions.
