Kenya Power announces widespread scheduled outages across multiple regions

Kenya Power has announced a series of planned power interruptions set to affect several counties across the country on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, as part of ongoing maintenance works aimed at improving electricity reliability and network performance.

The utility company said the scheduled outages will run between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in most areas, with a few locations experiencing shorter interruptions ending at 4:00 p.m. Residents and businesses in the affected regions have been advised to plan accordingly.

Nairobi and Kiambu counties

In Nairobi County, customers in Kamumbi, including Golf Sports Ground and Karura Health Centre, will be affected throughout the day. Parts of Westlands along Rapta Road will also experience outages, impacting areas such as Consolata Church, Lantana Road, David Osiele Road, Ring Road Westlands, and surrounding institutions including St. Mary School and Waridi School.

In neighbouring Kiambu County, the interruption will affect Kirigiti, Migaa, Riabai, Gichocho, Ngaita, and parts of Ndumberi. Key institutions such as St. Ann’s Lioki Secondary School and businesses like Kenflora are among those expected to be impacted.

Mt Kenya and Central Rift regions

In Nyeri County, areas including Mahiga, Ndunyu, and Hubuini will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Affected locations include Gachami Market, Kagere Market, Birithia Girls, Kenyatta Mahiga Boys, Ndunyu Market, and several tea factories such as Gitugi, Gathuthi, Thuti, and Kamoko.

Kirinyaga County will also be affected, with outages scheduled in Mwea, Thiba, and Roka. Key facilities expected to experience power disruption include Nice Rice and Unga Millers, Golden, Victory, and several commercial centres such as Old Stage Mwea, Mbui Njeru, and China Habei.

In Bomet County, under the Central Rift region, areas including Kapkwen, Tarakwa, and Makimeny will face power interruptions from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Markets and institutions such as Kapkwen Market, Tarakwa Market, and Kaproron Water Pump will be affected.

Coast and South Nyanza regions

In Mombasa County, a major outage will affect the whole of Mishomoroni and Kashani areas. The interruption will impact key facilities including Coast General Hospital Vikwatani, Kiembeni Police Station, several schools, mosques, residential estates, and commercial centres such as Junda, Falcon, and Blue Bench.

In Homa Bay County, areas including Ogande, Wiga, and Lorateng will be affected. Key locations include Kabunde Airstrip, Ogandi Girls, Rabuor Masawa, and parts of Rodi.

Kenya Power noted that the planned maintenance is necessary to facilitate network upgrades, connect new customers, and replace aging infrastructure.

The company has urged customers to treat all power lines as live during the maintenance period and assured that electricity supply will be restored promptly once the works are completed.
