Photo Story: The Transformation of the Chuka-Kathwana Corridor

Date:

The ongoing expansion of roads connecting Chuka, Kathwana, Kaanwa, Kajuki, Weru, and surrounding areas is transforming the economic landscape of Tharaka Nithi County.

Improved transport infrastructure, coupled with the growth of technical training institutions such as Chuka Technical and Vocational College, is opening new opportunities for trade, education, investment, and employment.

Residents say the interconnected road network is easing movement, increasing property value, and bringing services closer to the people. They are thankful to President William Ruto’s government for completing the road that had stalled for many years disrupting their daily lives.

Newly constructed and upgraded roads in Chuka are improving connectivity between trading centres, institutions, and residential areas. Residents say the improved roads are making transport easier and faster between the county headquarters and Chuka town
Real estate agent Eustace Mwambia highlights that ongoing road infrastructure developments are boosting local land and property values, successfully drawing a wave of new clients and investors to the region.
Construction workers continue with finishing works on culverts during the upgrading and expansion of the Chuka–Kathwana road network. The ongoing infrastructure project is significantly improving transit times and linking vital trading hubs across Tharaka Nithi County.
Linet Mavitiru who worked on the final construction of the road noted it had stalled for a long time but its completion has enabled continuity as they build the link roads in the area and also leading to Chuka TVC.
Dennis Mwendwa highlights how passengers using motorbikes got injured while traveling on the previously bad road Kaanwa, Tharaka Nithi County. He is also happy to have secured a job in the construction of the drainage systems and thankful for local leaders for lobbying for the developments in their county.
An aerial view highlights the extensive drainage installation works along the Chuka–Kathwana road. Deep excavation and heavy-duty culvert laying ensure structural longevity, and flood protection for the adjacent trading centers.
