Residents in parts of Kisumu and Nyeri counties should prepare for scheduled power interruptions on Monday, April 6, 2026, as Kenya Power undertakes routine maintenance to improve service reliability.
In a notice issued ahead of the planned works, the utility company said the temporary outages are necessary to facilitate system upgrades and ensure stable electricity supply in the affected regions.
Areas Affected in Kisumu County
In Kisumu County, the outage will affect parts of Wachara under the Western Region.
Power will be unavailable from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with areas set to be impacted including Wachara Primary School, Wachara Village, Wachara Secondary School, Wachara Market, Geta Primary School and surrounding customers.
The maintenance is expected to enhance network performance in the area, which has seen growing demand for electricity in recent months.
Nyeri County Areas to Experience Day-Long Outage
In Nyeri County, under the Mt. Kenya Region, several areas in Mwanda and Jambo will experience a longer interruption starting from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Affected locations include Karatina M.O.W, Karatina Jambo, Yacob Deen, Omega, Kerugoya Junction, Aberdare, Thailand, Mwanda, Ndaro-Ini, Gatundu, Gichatha-Ini, Bishop Kirima, Kiunyu, Thenge-Ini, Ihara, Kamunyaka, Gatura, Kahashu, Miiri Coffee Factory, Miiri Market, Kiawaiguru TBC, Kiangai Market, Kianyang’e Village, Kiangai Coffee Factory, Kiangai Village, Thunguri Coffee Factory, Karerahungu Village, Bore Kero, Thunguri Village, Kianwe Market, Kianwe Village, Kariko Village, Kiambagathi, Kiahiti Village, as well as Safaricom and Airtel booster installations and adjacent customers.
Kenya Power Urges Customers to Plan Ahead
Kenya Power has advised customers in the affected areas to plan accordingly and make necessary arrangements to minimize inconvenience during the outage period.
The company also encouraged customers to take advantage of its digital platforms for updates and support.
“Customers can access real-time outage updates, report issues, and get assistance through our self-service platforms, including the chatbot,” the utility noted.
Residents can access services such as outage status updates, rebilling requests, and token-related assistance through Kenya Power’s chatbot portal.
The company reiterated that such maintenance works are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the national grid and improve electricity reliability across the country.
Power is expected to be restored once the maintenance exercise is complete.
