Ruto joins world leaders in France for high-level G7 Summit

Date:

President William Ruto has arrived in Evian, France, to participate in the G7 Leaders’ Summit, where he is expected to champion Africa’s interests on global financial reforms, trade, climate action and economic development.

The President is attending the summit at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, who is hosting the gathering of leaders from the world’s leading advanced economies and democracies.

Ruto is accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto and Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi.

Africa’s Agenda at the G7 Summit

The summit presents President Ruto with an opportunity to articulate Africa’s priorities before some of the world’s most influential political and economic leaders.

During the high-level discussions, the President is expected to advocate for reforms to the global financial architecture, arguing that African countries require greater access to affordable financing to unlock development and economic growth.

He is also expected to push for stronger cooperation between Africa and developed economies in trade, infrastructure development, energy investments, innovation and climate resilience.

World Leaders Convene in France

The G7 Summit has brought together leaders from major economies to deliberate on pressing global challenges and emerging opportunities.

Among those attending are United States President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

European Union representatives, including European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, are also participating in the meeting.

Key Issues on the Global Agenda

The summit’s agenda includes discussions on the global economy, international trade, climate action, security and the growing influence of artificial intelligence.

Leaders are expected to explore ways of strengthening economic cooperation, addressing geopolitical tensions and ensuring technological advancement contributes to sustainable development.

Climate financing and investment in developing countries are also expected to feature prominently during the discussions.

Kenya Seeks Greater Global Partnerships

President Ruto is expected to use the platform to strengthen Kenya’s engagement with global partners while advocating for broader support for African development priorities.

His administration has consistently called for reforms to international lending systems, debt management frameworks and climate financing mechanisms, arguing that developing economies face disproportionate financial burdens.

The summit also offers an opportunity for Kenya to attract investment and deepen partnerships that can support infrastructure development, energy projects and economic transformation.

Growing Diplomatic Influence

Ruto’s participation in the G7 Leaders’ Summit highlights Kenya’s increasing role in global diplomacy and international policy discussions.

As African countries seek a stronger voice in shaping global economic decisions, Kenya has emerged as one of the continent’s leading advocates for inclusive growth, financial reform and sustainable development.

The outcomes of the summit are expected to shape future cooperation between Africa and the world’s major economies on trade, investment and development.
