President William Ruto has appointed renowned gospel musician and entrepreneur Paul Waiganjo as an Advisor on Development Affairs, bringing the popular Central Kenya figure into government service.
The announcement was made by Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano during a thanksgiving ceremony held in Ol Kalou on Sunday.
According to Miano, Waiganjo will support government efforts aimed at advancing development initiatives and strengthening implementation of key programmes.
“He will be advising the government on matters relating to development,” Miano told worshippers during the event.
The ceremony attracted several political leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration, including former Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, as campaigns for the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election gathered momentum.
From Gospel Stage to Government Service
Waiganjo has built a strong reputation over the years through his Kikuyu gospel music, earning a loyal following across the Mount Kenya region.
Beyond his music career, he has also established himself as a successful businessman with interests in real estate and property development.
His appointment signals a new chapter in a career that has largely revolved around entertainment, entrepreneurship and community engagement.
Growing Political Presence
In recent years, Waiganjo has increasingly become involved in political activities within the region.
Earlier this year, he sought the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket for the Ol Kalou parliamentary race but was unsuccessful after losing in the party nominations.
Despite the defeat, he has remained active in public affairs and continues to command influence among sections of the electorate through his social and economic initiatives.
Joins Expanding Team of Presidential Advisors
Waiganjo now joins a growing list of advisors serving in President Ruto’s administration, alongside professionals drawn from various sectors of the economy.
The advisory team plays a role in providing expertise on development planning, economic transformation, governance and implementation of government projects.
While details regarding Waiganjo’s specific responsibilities have not yet been outlined, his appointment is seen as part of the government’s broader strategy of incorporating individuals with grassroots appeal and private-sector experience into national leadership structures.
The appointment takes effect immediately.
