Kenya Power announces planned power outages in seven counties on Thursday

Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions that will affect customers in seven counties on Thursday, July 2, 2026, as the utility undertakes scheduled maintenance aimed at improving the reliability of the electricity distribution network.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, the power distributor said the temporary outages are necessary to facilitate maintenance works and urged affected customers to make the necessary arrangements during the interruption period.

The scheduled outages will affect selected areas in Kiambu, Kwale, Mombasa, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Nandi, and Kisumu counties, with power restoration expected immediately after the completion of the maintenance works.

Coast region

In Kwale County, electricity will be unavailable between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in parts of Diani, including areas around Swahili Beach Resort, Kaskazi Hotel, Carrefour, Chandarana Supermarket, Diani Marine, the Forty Thieves area, and neighbouring premises.

Residents in Mombasa County will also experience outages. Customers in Migadini Estate will be without power from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting locations such as Migadini Primary School, St. Lwanga and Migadini Police Station. Meanwhile, customers in Tezo and Chumani will experience an interruption from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Mt. Kenya region

In Nyeri County, power will be interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Tree Tops area and neighbouring locations, including Mary Immaculate Hospital, Baraka Children’s Home and Kamwenja TTC. The outage will also affect customers in Gakindu, Wahundura and Tambaya.

In Tharaka Nithi County, electricity will be switched off between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in areas around Itugururu Market, Itugururu Secondary School and Kathagara Primary Village.

Central, Rift Valley and Western Kenya

Parts of Kiambu County are also scheduled for a power interruption from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Areas expected to be affected include Carbacid Factory, Rukuma, Kimende, Escarpment, Kinale and Soko Mjinga.

In Nandi County, customers in Maraba, Senetwo, Kamelilo, Songhor and areas surrounding Soba River will experience an outage from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, selected parts of Kisumu County will be without electricity between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., affecting customers around Orongo Primary School, Tosha Petrol Station and Ola Petrol Station.

Kenya Power advisory

Kenya Power apologised for the inconvenience that may be caused by the planned maintenance and reiterated that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the stability and reliability of electricity supply across the country.
