Expect KJSEA results on December 11, senior school placement before Christmas – PS Education

Date:

In a significant step for Kenya’s Competency-Based Education (CBE) rollout, the Ministry of Education has confirmed the exact timeline for the first national transition to Senior School. The announcement provides certainty for 1.1 million Grade 9 learners, parents, and teachers anxious about the next phase of their education.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok announced that the results for the inaugural Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) for Grade 9 will be released by December 11.

The immediate release is designed to facilitate a rapid and smooth transition process before the year ends, allowing families to plan effectively.

Key transition dates: The road to Grade 10

The Ministry of Education is operating under an accelerated schedule to ensure the first cohort of Junior School learners moves seamlessly to Senior School.

Here are the critical dates confirmed by the PS:

  • KJSEA Results Release: By December 11.
  • Grade 10 Selection/Placement: To be completed before Christmas.
  • Senior School Reporting Date: Learners will report to Grade 10 on January 12, 2026.

A guaranteed placement and digital efficiency

The successful administration of the KJSEA marks a historic milestone in Kenya’s education reform. Crucially, the PS moved to quell fears over school availability, assuring the nation that the transition is fully guaranteed for every learner.

The government has secured over 2.4 million Senior School places for the 1.1 million learners who sat the exam. This ratio ensures that there is ample capacity nationwide.

Furthermore, the entire admission process will be managed using a digital placement system. This move is intended to ensure transparency, efficiency, and fairness in Grade 10 admissions, eliminating potential bottlenecks and guaranteeing that every student is placed promptly.

This commitment to timely, well-funded, and digitally-managed results and placement underscores the government’s dedication to making the CBC transition a success for Kenya’s next generation.
