Kisii University scholarships: Courses, requirements and how to apply

Date:

Kisii University has opened applications for 10 fully funded master’s scholarships in Information Technology, Nursing, Medicine and Biomedical Sciences under the African Development Fund‘s Support to Higher Education Science and Technology (HEST) Phase II project.

The scholarships are aimed at strengthening postgraduate training in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and supporting the development of highly skilled professionals in Kenya.

Successful applicants will have their tuition fees and research costs covered for the duration of their master’s studies. They will also serve as graduate assistants at their respective institutions.

The programme has 10 available slots, distributed across four areas:

  • Information Technology — 2 slots
  • Nursing — 3 slots
  • Medicine — 2 slots
  • Biomedical Sciences — 3 slots

The Information Technology and Biomedical Sciences programmes will be offered at Kisii University, Nursing at Chuka University, while Medicine will be offered at Moi University.

Who is eligible for the scholarships?

Applicants must meet several requirements to qualify for the funding.

They must:

  • Be Kenyan citizens
  • Be below 30 years old
  • Hold at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a recognised and accredited university
  • Be registered or eligible for registration with the relevant professional or regulatory body, where applicable
  • Meet any additional academic and professional requirements for their chosen programme

Persons with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply.

What does the scholarship cover?

The award covers tuition fees and research costs for the full duration of the master’s programme.

Successful candidates will also be engaged as graduate assistants at their respective institutions.

However, the scholarship comes with conditions. Beneficiaries will be bonded under the applicable terms and conditions and are expected to complete their studies within the prescribed period.

One of the major conditions is that candidates who successfully complete their master’s degree are expected to progress to a PhD programme under the same scholarship initiative, making the award a potential pathway from master’s-level study to doctoral training.

How to apply for the Kisii University scholarships

Interested applicants can obtain the scholarship application forms from the Kisii University website at Kisii University.

Applicants should complete the forms and submit their applications to the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Kisii University.

Applications should be addressed to:

The Vice Chancellor

Kisii, Kenya

The university has set the application deadline for 5 p.m. on August 25, 2026.

Applicants are advised to ensure their forms are complete and submitted before the deadline, as late applications may not be considered.

Scholarship offers come as universities expand STEM opportunities

The Kisii University scholarships are part of a wider government-backed effort to increase access to postgraduate education and strengthen research capacity in STEM disciplines.

Other Kenyan universities are also offering opportunities under the AfDB-funded HEST Phase II project, giving qualified graduates additional avenues to pursue advanced training in fields such as engineering, computer science and other scientific disciplines.

For prospective applicants, the Kisii University programme offers an opportunity to pursue a postgraduate qualification with major study and research costs covered while also providing a possible route to doctoral studies.
