Defect? What Defection! DCP says Juja MP Koimburi was never one of them

Date:

The Democracy for Citizens Party has downplayed reports that Juja MP George Koimburi had ditched the political outfit, maintaining that the MP has never been a member of the party.

The MP who has been conspicuously missing in the United Opposition’s rallies and functions, resurfaced days ago with his picture with former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria sparking mixed signals across the political divide.

In a viral video, Koimburi is heard lamenting a decision by the party to enlist his 2022 General Elections competitor Aloise Kinyanjui and even grant him an opportunity to greet Kenyans during a rally within Kimbo junction last Sunday.

PAID MILLIONS

“It is sad that some people who just joined recently are being entertained at the expense of some of us who stood with Gachagua in the wake of impeachment,” a visibly agitated Koimburi said, further claiming that the politician had paid millions to join the party and that he was the outfit preferred candidate in the 2027 race.

The MP further cautioned Mt Kenya residents against joining the party that he claimed was full of cons, saying Gachagua could no longer be trusted to champion the interests of the region.

“I cannot follow a leader who puts on bullet proof during rallies because he is not willing to die for Mwananchi. The people of Juja have lacked development while I was in Gachagua’s camp and it’s time I rejoin President William Ruto’s government to get development goodies for my people,” Koimburi said while announcing a shift of allegiance.

PUBLIC FUNCTIONS

But DCP in a statement sent to media houses, maintained that Koimburi, though an ally to the former Deputy President, has never been their member.

“He has never accompanied the party leader to any public function in the last six months while giving all manner of excuses,” the statement by Party’s Secretary General Hezron Obaga read in part.

But it is mistrust and alleged infiltration by government allied leaders that broke the camel’s back.

The DCP party says other MPs allied to the party were apprehensive of Koimburi’s loyalty to the Opposition cause following reports that he had allegedly been recruited by State operatives to spy on their movements to have his multiple criminal cases of land fraud, forgery and self abduction slowed down.

The MP is said to have met Gachagua and party’s Deputy National Chairperson Peter Mwathi Monday this week after allegedly requesting for a meet up to clarify some things.

POLITICAL COMPETITOR

It is claimed that Koimburi was furious that his political competitor had joined the party against his expectations that all MPs and Senators who opposed Gachagua’s impeachment would not be subjected to nominations.

“He demanded that Aloise be removed from the party and be given a written assurance that he would get a direct nomination,” Obaga noted.

The Secretary General added that though Gachagua maintained that every aspirant seeking on vie on the party must be subjected to nominations, he was open to allowing Koimburi’s second request of being exempted from attending his public functions until February next year to slow down his prosecution.

“We are grateful to him for the support given to the party leader during the impeachment process,” the party said, assuring of free, fair and transparent nominations conducted and supervised by the National Elections Board.
