ODM sets dates for grassroots delegate elections in Taita Taveta, Nyando and Kisumu

Date:

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced the official timetable for upcoming branch and county delegate elections in Taita Taveta, Nyando and Kisumu as the party intensifies preparations ahead of broader internal polls and the 2027 General Election.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) invited eligible members and delegates to apply for various available positions within the affected branches and counties.

“Eligible delegates of the branch and counties can apply for any positions at the Branch and County offices,” the notice stated.

Taita Taveta to Kick Off Election Exercise

According to the schedule released by the committee, Taita Taveta County will be the first to conduct its delegate elections on Friday, May 22.

The exercise will then move to the Nyando Branch on Friday, May 29 before concluding in Kisumu County on Friday, June 5.

ODM said voting in all the designated areas will take place between 9am and 12pm at respective branch and county offices.

The elections will be supervised by the NECC under the leadership of Chairperson Emily Awitta in line with the party constitution and electoral regulations.

ODM Intensifies Grassroots Reorganization

The latest exercise forms part of ODM’s wider efforts to reorganize and strengthen grassroots leadership structures ahead of future political contests.

Party insiders say delegate elections play a critical role in shaping internal decision-making structures and selecting representatives who influence party operations at both county and national levels.

The exercise also comes at a time when ODM has intensified internal mobilization activities across the country as it seeks to solidify its political base ahead of the 2027 elections.

Party Also Recruiting Candidates for Elective Seats

The announcement follows a recent notice by ODM inviting interested members to apply for six major elective positions within the party structure.

The positions include president, governor, senator, woman representative, member of parliament and member of county assembly.

The party set June 30 as the deadline for applications.

Elections Come Amid Internal Political Realignments

The grassroots elections are taking place as ODM continues to navigate internal political dynamics and factional disagreements involving the Linda Ground and Linda Mwananchi camps.

At the same time, the Raila Odinga-led party is working to strengthen strategic political partnerships and expand support networks as political formations begin positioning themselves ahead of the next General Election.

Political observers say the upcoming delegate elections could significantly influence ODM’s future internal balance of power and grassroots influence in key regions.
