Residents and businesses in parts of Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Kisumu, Kitui and Nandi counties should prepare for scheduled electricity interruptions on Wednesday, July 1, after Kenya Power announced planned maintenance works on its distribution network.
The utility company said the temporary outages are part of routine system maintenance aimed at improving the reliability and stability of electricity supply.
In a public advisory issued on Tuesday evening, Kenya Power urged customers in the affected areas to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the maintenance exercise.
Nyeri County
Power will be switched off from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. in several parts of Nyeri County.
Areas expected to be affected include Ragati Primary School, Mawasco Karatina, Karura Coffee Factory, Karura Primary School, Gathumbi, Mathare, parts of Unjiru, Ngari Junior, Gikumbo Market, Gikumbo Secondary School, Kiandara, Shauri Moyo, Gathambo TBC, Kiamigwi, Gaturumo-ini TBC, Gaikuyu Market, Safaricom and Airtel booster stations, as well as neighbouring customers.
The interruption will also affect Warazo Jet, Kithukine, Ebenezer, Kairi, Kimahuri, Island Dispensary, Kabaru and nearby areas during the same period.
Tharaka Nithi County
Customers in parts of Tharaka Nithi will experience power interruptions between 8.30 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.
The scheduled maintenance will affect Igamatundu Primary School and Dispensary, Gicheru Village, Kamwimbi Secondary School, Yogari Primary School, Kathuriri Village, together with surrounding customers.
Kisumu County
In Kisumu County, electricity supply will be interrupted from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
The maintenance exercise will affect Obwolo, Guba, Disciple of Mercy, Mamboleo Slaughter, Ndugu Transporters, Kisumu Concrete and neighbouring areas.
Kitui County
Residents of Kithyoko Village and adjacent areas in Kitui County are expected to be without electricity from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. as maintenance work continues on the network.
Nandi County
In Nandi County, the planned outage will run from 9.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Areas expected to experience the interruption include Maraba, Senetwo, Kamelilo, Songhor, Soba River and nearby trading centres and residential areas.
Customers advised to prepare
Kenya Power said the scheduled maintenance is necessary to strengthen the electricity distribution network and enhance the quality of service to customers.
The company advised households, institutions and businesses in the affected areas to plan ahead and take appropriate precautions before the maintenance begins, noting that power supply will be restored immediately after the works are completed if conditions allow.
