Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o has visited the main campus of Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK) in Kibos to assess ongoing institutional developments and academic progress.

Speaking in his capacity as Chancellor of the university, Prof. Nyong’o said the visit was aimed at reviewing growth milestones and strengthening the institution’s strategic direction as student numbers continue to rise.
Innovation Centre construction progress
A key highlight of the visit was an inspection of the Chandaria Innovation Centre, a major infrastructure project currently under construction at the campus.
The facility, expected to be completed in the second half of the year, is designed to expand research, innovation, and practical learning opportunities for GLUK’s growing student population, which now stands at approximately 3,700 students.
University leadership noted that the innovation hub will play a central role in nurturing skills development and entrepreneurship among learners.
Planned Partnership with Nairobi Hospital
During the tour, Prof. Nyong’o also held discussions with representatives from Nairobi Hospital, who are finalising a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the university.
The proposed partnership is expected to open expanded degree training opportunities, particularly in Community Health, strengthening clinical exposure and professional training pathways for students.
Positioning as a Community Health Centre of Excellence
Great Lakes University of Kisumu continues to position itself as a leading regional institution in Community Health education. The planned collaboration and ongoing infrastructure investments are part of broader efforts to enhance training capacity not only within Kenya but across the wider Great Lakes Region.
University officials say the developments reflect GLUK’s long-term vision of becoming a centre of excellence in health training, research, and community-focused innovation.
