Kenya Power has announced a series of scheduled power interruptions set to affect several regions across the country on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, as part of ongoing maintenance and network upgrade works.
The planned outages will impact parts of Kiambu, Kitui, Nyeri, Embu, Makueni and Kisumu counties, with most areas expected to experience power cuts for several hours during the day.
Kiambu and Kitui Counties
In Kiambu County, electricity will be interrupted in areas around Kwa Maiko and Osho Millers from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Affected locations include Kwa Maiko Shops, Mega Pipes, Kamubui Secondary School, Muchana Estate, Ndondo Estate, Ruiru Water and surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, in Kitui County, areas such as Mbondoni and Migwani will also face outages between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Key centres affected include Mbondoni Market, Tulia, Muthale, Kyambo, Kavoloi, Kaseve and neighbouring areas.
Nyeri and Embu Counties
In Nyeri County, multiple locations will be affected under two zones. Areas including Kagumo High and Kirichu will experience outages from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., impacting Kagumo High School, Kiganjo Estate, Gachika High School and surrounding areas.
A second outage will affect Kiawara and Nairutia areas during the same hours, including Lamuria, Bellevue, Kabendera, Kariguini and nearby locations.
In Embu County, power will be disrupted in Kivaa, Masinga and Kaewa areas from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Affected areas include Kivaa Market, Kyangosi Market, Masinga KenGen camps, Mukusu, Musumaa and adjacent customers.
Makueni County
In Makueni County, parts of Sultan area will experience power interruption from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Areas set to be affected include Sultan Town, Major Muiu Quarry, Kasikeu Market, Kandolo Secondary School, Kavuthu Market, Nduluni Market, Mutyambua Market and Barazani Market, along with surrounding customers.
Kisumu County
In Kisumu County, the outage will affect Chemursoi and Katolo areas between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Locations expected to be impacted include Nyakocho School, Chemursoi, Kaliti, Onyango Midika, Masongo, Ng’eti Maraga, Sare, Olasi, Oren, Kamunda Kanyipola and Mboya, among others.
Purpose of Maintenance
Kenya Power said the planned interruptions are necessary to facilitate maintenance works and system improvements, aimed at enhancing reliability and efficiency in electricity supply.
Customers in the affected areas have been advised to plan accordingly and treat all electrical installations as live during the outage period.
Advisory to Customers
The utility company urged residents and businesses to take precautionary measures, including safeguarding electrical appliances and making alternative arrangements where necessary during the outage hours.
Kenya Power routinely schedules such maintenance activities to improve service delivery and reduce unplanned blackouts across the country.
