Jubilee picks Wilson Kigwa for Ol Kalou by-election without primaries

Date:

The Jubilee Party has officially unveiled Eng. Wilson Kigwa as its candidate for the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election after concluding its nomination process through consensus, effectively avoiding a competitive party primary.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party confirmed that internal consultations involving aspirants and party officials resulted in Kigwa emerging as the preferred candidate to fly the Jubilee flag in the mini-poll.

According to the party leadership, several aspirants had initially expressed interest in the seat after applications were opened for consideration.

However, engagements within the party eventually produced a consensus agreement backing Kigwa.

“The party received applications from several qualified aspirants from across the constituency, and after consultations with those who qualified, the party settled on Eng. Wilson Kigwa as its candidate for the forthcoming by-election,” the statement read.

Jubilee Shifts Focus to Campaign Mobilization

The announcement now clears the way for Jubilee to begin full-scale campaigns across Ol Kalou Constituency as the party seeks to strengthen its political influence in Nyandarua County.

Party officials said campaign structures had already been activated and grassroots mobilization efforts would intensify in the coming days.

“As a party, we wish to affirm that it is now all systems go for Jubilee in Ol Kalou,” the statement added.

The party said the decision to settle on a single candidate early was aimed at promoting unity, cohesion and a focused campaign strategy ahead of the by-election.

Party Pushes Development and Unity Agenda

Operating under its “Mbele Pamoja” slogan, Jubilee said it remains committed to development-focused leadership, service delivery and reconnecting with voters at the grassroots level.

The party also emphasized continuity in governance values and accountability, saying it intended to build on its political legacy in the region.

“We do not take for granted the trust the people of Ol Kalou have continuously placed in our party,” the statement said.

Ol Kalou Race Expected to Attract Intense Political Competition

Kigwa’s endorsement now positions him as Jubilee’s sole candidate in a contest that is expected to attract multiple political parties and heightened national attention.

Political analysts say Jubilee’s early consensus strategy could help the party avoid internal wrangles and focus resources on voter outreach and campaign organization.

Ol Kalou Constituency has remained politically competitive over the years, with parties viewing the region as strategically important within Central Kenya politics.

The by-election is also expected to serve as an early political test for parties seeking to strengthen their influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
