Gov’t unveils Underson Park Residence after major Ttransformation of Kisumu’s Historic Anderson-Ofafa Estate

Date:

The government has officially unveiled Anderson Park Residence, a modern residential development that has transformed the former Anderson-Ofafa Estate into one of Kisumu’s largest urban renewal projects.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the project marks a significant milestone in the city’s housing transformation efforts, providing modern living spaces while helping address the growing demand for quality housing in Kisumu.

Construction of the development began in July 2024, replacing the aging Anderson-Ofafa Estate, which had served residents for more than six decades.

“As major infrastructure investments and economic interventions continue expanding Kisumu’s socio-economic space and attracting a growing urban population, this project is helping meet rising housing demand while redefining modern urban living,” Omollo said.

Partnership Driving Urban Renewal

The project was developed through a partnership between the Kisumu County Government and the County Pension Fund (CPF) LAPTRUST.

According to Omollo, the collaboration demonstrates how public-private partnerships can accelerate urban regeneration while creating investment opportunities and improving living standards.

Phase One of the project has already delivered hundreds of housing units alongside commercial spaces designed to support both residents and businesses.

681 Modern Apartments Delivered

The first phase comprises 681 apartments spread across seven residential blocks.

The units include 31 one-bedroom apartments, 464 two-bedroom apartments, and 186 three-bedroom apartments, catering to a wide range of residents, from young professionals to larger families.

In addition, the development features 65 retail shops integrated within the residential complex to provide convenient access to goods and services.

“Phase One features 681 modern apartments and 65 integrated retail shops designed to create a vibrant live-work environment within the city,” Omollo said.

Modern Amenities for Urban Living

The Anderson Park Residence has been equipped with modern infrastructure intended to enhance convenience, security, and comfort for residents.

Among the key features are centralized piped cooking gas systems, high-speed elevators, full backup power, borehole water supply, and fibre-optic internet connectivity.

The development is designed to offer a contemporary urban lifestyle while ensuring reliability in essential services.

“The project combines efficiency with modern urban convenience through quality infrastructure and utility services,” Omollo noted.

Lifestyle Facilities to Boost Quality of Life

Beyond housing, the project incorporates a range of recreational and lifestyle amenities.

Residents will have access to a gymnasium, rooftop lounge, and strategically located commercial spaces that connect the development with Kisumu’s expanding central business district.

A swimming pool is also planned under the second phase of the project, further enhancing the appeal of the residential complex.

Officials say the amenities are intended to create a community-oriented environment while improving the overall quality of life for residents.

Economic Impact on Kisumu

The government believes the project will contribute significantly to Kisumu’s economic growth by creating jobs, attracting investment, and stimulating commercial activity.

The development has already become a prominent feature of the city’s skyline and is expected to support ongoing efforts to position Kisumu as a leading urban and economic hub in western Kenya.

The project is also expected to increase demand for local businesses and services, generating additional economic opportunities for surrounding communities.

Affordable Housing Expansion Continues

The unveiling comes as the government continues implementing housing projects across the country under its broader affordable housing and urban renewal agenda.

Recently, Omollo provided an update on the Wajir Township Affordable Housing Project, which has already created employment opportunities for more than 200 local residents, including 60 women.

The Wajir project comprises 220 housing units across 11 blocks and is expected to be completed within the next four months.

Government officials say such developments are aimed at expanding access to quality housing, creating jobs, and supporting sustainable urban growth across Kenya.
