JSC announces vacancy for Supreme Court Judge

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has advertised a vacancy for a Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya, following a January 2025 gazette notice.

The Judge, like the others at the apex court, will hear and determine presidential election disputes and handle appeals from the Court of Appeal.

He or she will also issue advisory opinions to national and county governments, hear appeals relating to removal of judges and consider matters arising from a state of emergency.

Applicants must hold a law degree from a recognized university or be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, have at least 15 years’ experience as either a superior court judge, or
a distinguished legal practitioner, academic, or judicial officer.

The person must also demonstrate high integrity, moral character, impartiality, and compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution and show strong professional competence, judgment, communication skills, and public service commitment.

Application window open until February 5 and must be submitted through the JSC online jobs portal: https://jsc.go.ke/jobs-2/

Among the documents that must be uploaded to the portal include application letter & detailed CV, academic and professional certificates, admission to the Roll of Advocates and a clearance from Advocates Complaints Commission.

Also, applicants must submit five (5) samples of legal or scholarly writings, income, assets, and liabilities declaration, tax returns / audited accounts (last 3 years where applicable) and references (professional & character) and a passport-size photographs.

One hard copy of the full application must also be submitted.

The Commission has warned against canvassing saying it will lead to automatic disqualification.

“Submitting false information is a criminal offence. JSC recruitment is free of charge and promotes equal opportunity,” the agency warned.
