Ministry of Roads opens recruitment for 139 positions

Date:

The Ministry of Roads and Transport, through the State Department for Roads, has announced 139 job vacancies for qualified Kenyan professionals as part of efforts to strengthen capacity across various technical and training institutions.

The recruitment targets engineers, lecturers, instructors, technicians, geologists, physicists and other professionals, with applications expected to close on June 30, 2026.

According to the ministry, the vacancies are divided into promotional opportunities for serving public officers and entry-level positions open to qualified applicants seeking to join government service.

Majority of Vacancies Reserved for Internal Promotion

Of the 139 available positions, 124 have been designated as promotional vacancies for existing public servants across 17 different job categories.

Among the most notable openings are 14 positions for Senior Engineer (Materials), 15 positions for Principal Instructor at the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT), and 11 positions for Senior Lecturer at the same institution.

The ministry is also seeking to recruit professionals for specialized roles including Superintending Geologist, Chief Physicist, Principal Engineering Technicians, Senior Engineering Technicians and various technical supervisory positions.

Officials say the promotions are intended to strengthen institutional leadership and technical expertise within the roads sector.

Entry-Level Opportunities Available

In addition to promotional positions, the State Department has advertised 15 entry-level vacancies targeting professionals seeking to begin careers in government service.

The positions include seven Driver Instructor III vacancies and eight Plant Operator Instructor III vacancies.

Successful candidates will be deployed to support training and capacity-building programmes within government road and transport institutions.

Focus on Technical Skills Development

The recruitment drive places significant emphasis on technical training and engineering expertise, reflecting the government’s continued investment in road infrastructure development and skills enhancement.

Several of the advertised positions are linked to KIHBT, one of the country’s leading institutions for engineering and construction training.

The ministry says strengthening technical manpower remains critical as Kenya continues implementing major road construction, maintenance and transport projects across the country.

How to Apply

Interested candidates have been advised to submit their applications online through the Public Service Commission recruitment portal.

Applications can be made via the Public Service Commission website or through the PSC jobs portal.

The ministry emphasized that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and required to present original academic and professional certificates during interviews.

All applications must be submitted no later than June 30, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. East African Time.

Growing Public Sector Recruitment

The announcement comes amid a series of recruitment drives across government agencies and state institutions.

Recently, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) announced 33 vacancies in various departments, while the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) advertised 76 lecturer positions across multiple disciplines.

Government officials say the recruitment initiatives are aimed at strengthening public service delivery, enhancing technical capacity and supporting national development programmes.

As infrastructure projects continue expanding nationwide, the Ministry of Roads expects the new hires to play a key role in improving engineering services, technical training and road sector operations across Kenya.
