Kenya Power has announced planned electricity maintenance that will affect customers in five counties on Friday, July 17, as part of ongoing efforts to improve the reliability of the national power distribution network.
The utility company said the scheduled maintenance will involve upgrades to power lines, replacement of faulty infrastructure and new customer connections. Depending on the location, the outages are expected to begin between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and could last until 5:00 p.m.
According to Kenya Power, the maintenance is conducted under Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules, which allows temporary interruptions to facilitate network improvements.
Migori County
Power will be interrupted from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in parts of Migori County.
Areas expected to be affected include Masaba Market, Masaba Primary School, Masaba Village, Bohorera and neighbouring customers.
Nyeri County
Customers in parts of Nyeri County will experience electricity interruptions from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The affected areas include Rukandu, Kiamuiru, Githiro, Satima Flour Mills, Mugwathi, Jubilant Nest Hotel, Vet Pro Ltd., Gachihi, Ngibuini, Mahugu, sections of Kahiga, Gikunju Maternity, Kwa George and nearby customers.
Kiambu County
Electricity supply will also be suspended between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in parts of Kiambu County.
The outage will affect Sigona, Zambezi, Nderi, KARI Muguga, KETRI, Mugumoini, Kamangu, Kamangu Shopping Centre, Runana and surrounding areas.
Embu County
Residents in parts of Embu County should also expect power interruptions from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The affected locations include Karurumo Health Centre, Runyenjes Technical, J.B. Muturi, Kamumu Market, Karigiri Primary School, Kianthambu Primary School, Kathagutari Primary School, Kavengero Market, Ngunyumu Market, Kanyangi Market, Cianthia Secondary School, Gwakaithi Primary School, Iriri Primary School and neighbouring customers.
Meru County
In Meru County, the planned maintenance will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.
Areas scheduled for the outage include Gakurine, Kiandiu, Chugu, Kwiriro Market, Runongone Airtel, Kaithe Market, Kithoka, Fred’s Academy, Thiiri Cultural Centre, Bishop Lawi Imathiu Primary and Secondary Schools, Kithoka Ripples and adjacent customers.
Kenya Power urges customers to prepare
Kenya Power advised customers in the affected areas to plan ahead for the temporary interruption, noting that the maintenance is necessary to improve service reliability and support future electricity demand.
The company said scheduled outages enable technicians to upgrade distribution infrastructure, replace ageing equipment, connect new customers and relocate power lines where required for road construction and other development projects.
