Kenyan households and businesses in several counties should brace for planned power outages today, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, as Kenya Power undertakes routine maintenance on its electricity network.
The utility company said the scheduled interruptions will run between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in most affected areas, although some locations will experience shorter or slightly adjusted outage periods.
South Nyanza to experience full-day outage
In Nyamira County, areas within Nyansiongo, Manga, and Eronge will be without electricity for the better part of the day. The affected locations include Nyansiongo Mission, Manga Market, Eronge Boarding, Kebuse, Changwani, Etangi, and Nyansiongo Boys, among others.
Kenya Power noted that the maintenance exercise is aimed at improving service reliability and ensuring stable power supply in the region.
Coast region affected in Taita Taveta
In the Coast region, parts of Taita Taveta County, specifically Maungu town and surrounding areas, will experience a shorter outage running from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The interruption is expected to affect both residential and commercial customers within the town and its environs.
Nairobi’s Parklands area to face disruptions
Within Nairobi County, parts of Parklands will also be affected by the scheduled maintenance. Areas such as Kapande Road, Ngara Road, sections of Westlands Road, and nearby estates including Stima Sacco and Museum of Kenya vicinity will be without power throughout the day.
The outage is part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades targeting improved electricity distribution in the capital.
Rift Valley counties also affected
In Kericho County, residents in Kipchimchim and Ainamoi areas will experience power interruptions from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Key locations include Kenya Highland University area, Nyagacho Market, Toror Tea Factory, and surrounding zones.
Meanwhile, in Uasin Gishu County, parts of Wounifor will face outages from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., affecting areas such as Katujyo and Chepkongony Secondary School.
Western region outage in Kisumu
In Kisumu County, Ojola Pundo and nearby areas including River Side Hotel and Pundo Village will also be affected by the planned outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Advisory to customers
Kenya Power has advised customers in all the affected regions to plan accordingly and take necessary precautions during the outage period.
The company emphasized that such maintenance works are essential for enhancing network efficiency, preventing unexpected blackouts, and supporting long-term electricity demand across the country.
