The commissioning of the Ngong Road-Naivasha Road Flyover marks a significant milestone in Nairobi’s journey toward becoming a modern, efficient, and globally competitive city. The new infrastructure is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, and enhance the movement of people and goods along one of the capital’s busiest transport corridors.
Speaking while commissioning the road, President William Ruto said Nairobi had reached a point where its economic ambitions had outgrown its existing infrastructure. He noted that traffic congestion has for years slowed economic activity by delaying workers, increasing transport and business costs, reducing productivity, and limiting opportunities for traders and families alike.
Describing congestion as both a transport and economic challenge, the President said the KSh3.88 billion flyover is a strategic investment designed to improve the city’s efficiency and competitiveness. The project separates traffic flows, enhances safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists, and significantly reduces travel time.
He also expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Spain for partnering with Kenya in financing the project, describing the collaboration as a reflection of the strong ties between the two countries.
The President emphasized that the flyover is part of a broader infrastructure transformation underway across Nairobi and its environs.
Other initiatives include the KSh1.6 billion upgrade of State House Road and the KSh3.99 billion construction of access roads to Talanta Sports City ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The President also highlighted the Nairobi Urban Regeneration Programme, under which hundreds of kilometers of urban roads are being maintained, rehabilitated, and upgraded to ensure modern infrastructure throughout the Nairobi metropolitan area. Plans are also underway to dual the 23.5-kilometre Kiambu Road corridor in a project valued at approximately KSh30 billion.
In addition, a KSh2 billion drainage improvement programme will help reduce flooding and protect homes, businesses, and public infrastructure.
The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building an efficient, resilient, and well-connected Nairobi, noting that improved mobility is essential for economic growth, investment, job creation, and a better quality of life for all residents.
