The government has announced the completion of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road Junction Flyover, with the landmark infrastructure project now awaiting commissioning as part of ongoing efforts to modernize Nairobi’s transport system and improve urban mobility.
The project, implemented by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), features an 800-metre elevated dual carriageway designed to separate through-traffic along Ngong Road from vehicles accessing Naivasha Road and King’ara Road, easing congestion at one of the capital’s busiest intersections.
Speaking during an inspection of the project, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo said the flyover represents a major step in transforming Nairobi into a modern, efficient and globally competitive city.
“This project demonstrates the Government’s commitment to investing in world-class infrastructure that improves mobility, supports economic growth and enhances the quality of life for citizens,” said Omollo.

Relief for Motorists Along Busy Corridor
The junction has long been a traffic bottleneck, particularly during peak hours, affecting thousands of commuters travelling between the city centre, Dagoretti, Karen and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Once operational, the flyover is expected to significantly reduce travel times between Ngong and Nairobi’s Central Business District while improving traffic flow along the wider transport corridor.
“The completion of this flyover will greatly ease congestion, improve connectivity and enhance the efficiency of transport services within Nairobi,” Omollo said.
He noted that improved traffic movement would also lower fuel consumption, reduce delays and boost productivity for businesses and commuters who rely on the route daily.

Boost for AFCON 2027 Preparations
The project is also expected to strengthen access to the nearby Talanta Stadium, one of Kenya’s flagship sports infrastructure projects being developed ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to Omollo, modern transport infrastructure will play a critical role in ensuring seamless movement of players, officials, fans and visitors during major international events.
“As Kenya prepares to host continental sporting events, strategic infrastructure investments such as this flyover will be essential in supporting efficient movement and showcasing Nairobi as a world-class destination,” he said.
Government Supports Smooth Implementation
The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has been working closely with stakeholders throughout the project’s implementation to ensure smooth execution and public safety.
Omollo said the department has supported the project through stakeholder coordination, traffic management measures, public safety oversight and road safety awareness campaigns.
“Our role has been to ensure that infrastructure development is delivered safely and efficiently while protecting motorists, pedestrians and surrounding communities,” he said.
He added that coordinated efforts among government agencies have been instrumental in minimizing disruptions during construction and ensuring the project delivers its intended benefits.
Transforming Nairobi’s Urban Landscape
The Ngong Road–Naivasha Road Junction Flyover forms part of a broader government strategy to modernize Nairobi’s road network, improve urban mobility and support sustainable economic growth.
Omollo emphasized that infrastructure remains a key pillar of Kenya’s development agenda, with continued investments aimed at creating a more connected and competitive economy.
“Modern infrastructure is fundamental to national development. Projects such as this one are not only improving transport efficiency but also creating opportunities for investment, job creation and economic expansion,” he said.
With construction now complete, motorists and residents are expected to begin enjoying the benefits of the new flyover once commissioning and final operational preparations are concluded.
