ODM opens online portal for General Election aspirants; Full requirements listed

Date:

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially sounded the drums of war for the 2027 General Elections, inviting members to express interest in all elective positions, including the Presidency.

In a notice dated May 11, 2026, the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) chairperson, Hon. Emily Awita, announced that the window for applications is now open. The move signals ODM’s intent to maintain its status as an independent political juggernaut despite recent shifts in the national political landscape.

The Positions Up for Grabs

Pursuant to Article 61(1) of the ODM Constitution, the party is seeking candidates for:

  • President
  • Governor
  • Member of the Senate
  • County Woman Representative
  • Member of the National Assembly
  • Member of the County Assembly (MCA)

Digital-First Application Process

In a shift toward modernizing its internal processes, the party has directed all interested aspirants to apply exclusively through the newly launched online portal: https://aspirants.odm-ke.com/.

Aspirants have until June 30, 2026, to submit their expressions of interest. The primary requirement remains straightforward: Applicants must be registered voters.

A Critical Turning Point

This announcement comes at a time when political observers are closely watching the “Orange Party.” Following the transition in leadership after the passing of its longtime leader, the party is eager to prove it remains the most organized opposition force in Kenya.

Members are also being encouraged to verify their membership details by dialing the USSD code *483*036#. For clarifications, the NECC has provided a dedicated help line (0757242495) and email (neb@odm.co.ke).

Why This Matters

By opening the Presidential application early, ODM is effectively ending speculation about a potential merger with the ruling UDA or other factions within the Azimio coalition. This “early bird” strategy allows the party to vet candidates over the next 14 months, ensuring they field a formidable team to challenge President William Ruto’s administration.
