ODPP announces public auction of vehicles, surplus stores in Nairobi

Date:

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has announced a public auction of unserviceable motor vehicles and assorted surplus stores, inviting interested buyers to participate in the exercise later this month.

The auction is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m., and will be held at the ODPP’s Nairobi offices.

According to the notice, the exercise will be conducted by Trenad Auctioneers, who have been appointed to oversee the sale.

Public viewing begins July 9

Prospective buyers will have an opportunity to inspect the vehicles and other items before the auction.

The viewing period will run from July 9 to July 17, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily.

The ODPP said all items will be sold on an “as-is, where-is” basis, urging bidders to inspect them carefully before placing bids.

A complete catalogue of the available vehicles and stores has been published on the ODPP website and the Public Procurement Information Portal (PPIP).

Bidders required to pay refundable deposits

Interested bidders will be required to pay a refundable deposit before participating in the auction.

For motor vehicles, the deposit will be 10 per cent of the reserve price, while bidders interested in the assorted stores must pay KSh5,000.

The deposits should be made into the ODPP account held at the Central Bank of Kenya under the account name REC-Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

The prosecution office said unsuccessful bidders will receive full refunds after the auction is concluded.

Successful buyers given seven days to complete payment

Winning bidders will be required to pay 25 per cent of the purchase price immediately once the bid is accepted.

The remaining balance must be cleared within seven days.

The ODPP warned that failure to complete payment within the stipulated period will result in forfeiture of the deposit.

Successful buyers will also be expected to collect their vehicles within 14 days after the auction.

“Successful bidders should remove the motor vehicle within 14 days from the date of the auction. Failure to do so will attract storage charges of KSh2,000 per day,” the ODPP said.

The office encouraged all interested buyers to familiarise themselves with the auction terms and inspect the items before submitting their bids.
