Students at Chuka Technical and Vocational College (Chuka TVC) are set to benefit from improved accommodation and infrastructure following the rollout of the government’s Affordable Housing Project(AHP) and the ongoing construction of a new tarmac road linking the institution to nearby trading centres.
The ongoing projects are reshaping the institution and surrounding communities with AHP projects expected to improve student accommodation, create employment opportunities, strengthen technical training, and enhance connectivity across Tharaka Nithi County.
According to the college administration, the project aligns with the institution’s vision and mission of offering quality technical education and practical training to learners. He says the trainees pursuing Building and Civil Engineering as well as Electrical and Electronic courses are expected to gain hands-on experience through involvement in the project.
With a population of nearly 4,700 trainees, Chuka TVC continues to expand its role in technical and vocational education in the region under seven departments, the Building and Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Department, ICT Department, Business, Institutional Management.The Affordable Housing Project at Chuka TVC is expected to provide accommodation for 1,820 trainees through modern apartment-style hostels. This is expected to solve the accommodation crisis faced by students.Mr Kimathi Bundi, the College Deputy Principal, says the project is creating employment opportunities for local residents, with contractors expected to engage close to 200 casual workers from surrounding communities. According to Engineering head of Department Enock Yegon, students pursuing Building and Civil Engineering as well as Electrical and Electronic courses are expected to gain hands-on experience through the ongoing construction works at the college.The tarmac road linking Chuka, Kaanwa, Kathwana and link roads to the institution is expected to improve transport and connectivity across the region. It is also expected to open up linkages with other institutions of learning for mutual benefits. An aerial view of Chuka TVC captures the heart of our growing campus.
