Simba Arati launches road machinery, vows end to impassable roads in Kisii

Date:

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has unveiled a new fleet of road construction machinery, promising to end the long-standing challenge of impassable roads across the county.

Speaking during the launch, Arati said the investment marks a turning point in efforts to improve infrastructure and ease movement for residents.

“Impassable roads will become history,” the governor declared as he introduced the county-owned equipment.

New machinery to boost road works

The newly acquired fleet includes 15 road graders, 8 excavators, 3 wheel loaders, 5 rollers, and one bulldozer.

According to Arati, the machines will significantly enhance the county’s capacity to construct and maintain roads without relying heavily on external contractors.

“These are machinery our county has desperately needed for years. As I pledged during my campaign, we will make life more bearable for our people,” he said.

Job creation through infrastructure push

The governor noted that the rollout of the machinery will also create employment opportunities for hundreds of residents.

The county expects to employ at least 120 machine operators, while an additional 1,500 people will benefit through the Kazi Mashinani Programme, working on various road projects.

The initiative is aimed at not only improving infrastructure but also boosting livelihoods at the grassroots level.

More equipment on the way

Arati further revealed plans to expand the fleet with additional support vehicles to enhance efficiency in road construction and maintenance.

The county is set to acquire 20 tippers, two fuel tankers, two water bowsers, two prime mover trucks, and two tool trucks.

The additional equipment is expected to support logistics, fuel supply, and transportation of materials across project sites.

Focus on improving connectivity

The move comes as part of a broader strategy by the county government to improve connectivity, support local trade, and ease access to essential services such as schools and health facilities.

Residents have long decried poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season when many areas become inaccessible.

With the new machinery now in place, the county leadership says it is committed to delivering durable road networks that will transform mobility and economic activity in Kisii.
