President William Ruto and a number of Cabinet Secretaries have unveiled a fresh round of appointments and reappointments across several state agencies, in a move aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing service delivery in key sectors of the economy.
According to Gazette Notices published on May 29, President Ruto reappointed Joseph Ogendo as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Trade Network Agency (KenTrade) for another three-year term.
The appointments cut across critical sectors including trade, energy, education, infrastructure, water and financial services, underscoring the government’s continued focus on institutional stability and effective public administration.
Treasury, Energy Dockets Receive New Appointments
At the National Treasury, Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi appointed George Wambugu Kanuri to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority for a three-year term.
In the energy sector, Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi appointed Nick Ochola as a board member of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO). The CS also renewed the terms of Mercylinnete Rotich and Janerose Gatwiri, allowing them to continue serving on the company’s board for another three years.
Education and Infrastructure Institutions Strengthened
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba renewed the appointment of Emmanuel Mutisya as Chairperson of the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology Council.
The ministry also retained Washington O. Yotto, Collins K. Tanui, and Meshak Kidenda as council members, extending their tenure for a further three years.
Meanwhile, Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome reappointed Nicholas Tirop Koech to the Board of the National Construction Authority, while Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui renewed the appointments of Geoffrey Omenke and Joe N. Muriuki to the Board of the Export Processing Zones Authority.
Water Sector Board Retains Member
In the water sector, Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa reappointed Risper Maccs Berem as a member of the North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency Board, ensuring continuity in the agency’s leadership.
All the appointments and reappointments take effect from May 29, 2026, as stipulated in the respective Gazette Notices.
Kisumu County Revokes Municipal Board Appointment
Separately, Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o revoked the appointment of Lordvick Otieno as a member of the Maseno-Holo Municipality Board with immediate effect.
The decision follows recent discussions on governance and operational challenges facing municipal boards, including concerns over limited financial autonomy and implementation powers.
The latest appointments reflect ongoing efforts by both the national and county governments to reinforce leadership structures within public institutions as they pursue their development and service delivery agendas.
