Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions in selected areas across four counties on Tuesday, June 2, as the utility company undertakes routine maintenance and upgrades of its power distribution network.
In a public notice issued on Monday, the company said the scheduled outages will affect parts of Kakamega, Bungoma, Kisii and Meru counties between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.
Kenya Power explained that the temporary interruptions are necessary to facilitate maintenance works, upgrade power lines, connect new customers and improve the reliability of electricity supply.
Kakamega County
In Kakamega County, the outage will affect the Lubao area and surrounding locations.
Customers in Bukhaiywa, Lubao Market, Emusala, Emukamba, Hadithi, Orthopaedic Hospital, New National Housing Estate, Mwiyala and Shikusa Prison, among other neighbouring areas, should expect an interruption in electricity supply during the scheduled maintenance period.
Bungoma County
Residents and businesses in parts of Bungoma County will also experience an eight-hour power interruption.
Areas affected include Mechimeru, Bukembe, Nzoia, Mabanga, Kasusi, Ekitale, Matumbuvu, Luanda, Mtomolo and neighbouring locations.
Kenya Power said the maintenance works are aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening the stability of the network in the region.
Kisii County
In Kisii County, the outage will affect Nyangweta, Etago and Ekona areas.
Institutions and centres expected to be impacted include Kenyenya Primary School, Nyangweta SDA Secondary School and Etago Market.
Other affected locations include Nyansembe, Nyakeyo, Suguta, Moticho, Engou, Nyabera, Nyamaiya, Ekona, Mogenda, Ochodororo and Maroon, alongside adjacent customers.
Meru County
In Meru County, electricity supply will be interrupted in Kinaa and surrounding areas as maintenance works continue on the network.
Customers in Kaweru, Kihutini, Kipkona, Kinaa Market, Kenya Wildlife Service offices, Rhino Camp, Njoune, Kamiruru, Nthare, Nguyuyu, Matindui, Kiengu, Kabuitu, Kiamuringa, Kanjoo, Mangala, Ikweta, Kanake, Therone, Thambiro, Materine and Garbatula will be affected.
The outage will also impact China State Construction Lot 2 and nearby customers.
Ongoing Network Improvements
Kenya Power has urged customers in the affected areas to plan accordingly during the maintenance period.
The utility company noted that periodic power interruptions are necessary to facilitate infrastructure upgrades, accommodate growing demand and connect new customers to the national grid.
The planned maintenance comes as Kenya Power continues to invest in strengthening the electricity distribution network to enhance reliability, reduce outages and support economic activities across the country.
Power supply is expected to be restored immediately after the completion of the scheduled maintenance works.
