Kenya Power announces planned electricity maintenance in Uasin Gishu and Bungoma counties, 12th June

Kenya Power has announced scheduled power maintenance in parts of Uasin Gishu and Bungoma counties as the utility continues upgrading and servicing its electricity network.

According to a maintenance notice issued by the company, the planned works will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, and are expected to interrupt electricity supply in the affected areas for several hours.

Uasin Gishu County

In the North Rift Region, the maintenance will affect parts of Merewet in Uasin Gishu County from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Areas expected to experience power interruption include:

  • Merewet
  • Teresia
  • Mumetet
  • Kapnyongi
  • Chepkongi
  • Adjacent customers

Kenya Power said the outage is necessary to allow technicians to carry out routine maintenance and improve the reliability of electricity supply in the region.

Bungoma County

In the Western Region, several areas in Bungoma County will also be affected by the scheduled maintenance.

Terem Power and Kapkateny Areas

The first outage will occur in Terem Power and Kapkateny from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Areas to be affected include:

  • Kapkateny
  • Terem Power
  • Koroyowandet
  • Kimlalewa Market
  • Surrounding areas

Lugulu and Munyikana Areas

A second maintenance exercise will take place in Lugulu and Munyikana from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The affected areas include:

  • Munyikana
  • Mwalim House
  • Dinah
  • Santa Barbra
  • Malaha
  • Sirisia
  • Bujosi
  • Webuye Jaggery
  • Noah Wekesa
  • Lugulu
  • Misikhu
  • Wananchi
  • Lavington
  • Adjacent customers

Kenya Power Urges Residents to Prepare

Kenya Power advised residents and businesses in the affected areas to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the interruptions, including safeguarding electrical appliances and planning around the outage hours.

The company noted that the maintenance is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the power distribution network and reduce unplanned outages in the future.

“Customers are encouraged to treat all electricity lines as live during the maintenance period,” the utility said in the notice.

The planned outages come as Kenya Power continues implementing infrastructure upgrades and preventive maintenance across the country to improve service delivery and ensure a more stable electricity supply.
