The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has cautioned Kenyans against a fraudulent recruitment notice circulating online, saying it has not announced any mass hiring exercise for teachers as claimed in the viral poster.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 30, the commission clarified that the widely shared advertisement purporting to announce the recruitment of 12,632 teachers is false and should be ignored.
TSC warned job seekers against falling prey to scammers and advised members of the public to verify all recruitment announcements through its official platforms before submitting applications or personal information.
Fake recruitment notice flagged
The fake notice claimed that the commission had opened applications to replace teachers who had exited the service due to retirement, resignation and other circumstances.
According to the fraudulent advertisement, vacancies had allegedly been created for primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools, with applications expected to close on July 20, 2026.
The poster further outlined purported eligibility requirements and directed applicants to submit applications through what it described as the commission’s recruitment process.
However, TSC categorically denied issuing the notice.
“The circulating recruitment poster is fake. Members of the public are advised to disregard it,” the commission said.
Public urged to use official communication channels
TSC reiterated that any genuine recruitment exercise is always communicated through its official website and verified communication platforms.
The commission urged prospective applicants to remain vigilant against individuals or groups attempting to exploit unemployed teachers through fake employment opportunities.
It further reminded the public that recruitment into the teaching service follows established procedures and official announcements.
Recruitment plans announced by President Ruto
The clarification comes just days after President William Ruto announced that the government plans to recruit an additional 24,000 teachers this year as part of efforts to address staffing shortages in public schools.
According to the President, the new hires will initially serve on contract terms before transitioning to permanent and pensionable employment.
Ruto also announced that nearly 20,000 teachers currently serving on contract will be absorbed into permanent and pensionable terms beginning July 1.
The latest government recruitment programme is expected to raise the total number of teachers employed since 2022 to approximately 124,000.
Despite those plans, TSC stressed that no recruitment advertisement matching the claims in the viral poster has been published and advised the public to treat such messages as misinformation.
The commission encouraged teachers seeking employment opportunities to monitor only official TSC announcements for authentic vacancies and recruitment updates.
