#EveningBrief: Arsenal, Manchester match, Ruto’s scorecard and Othaya church attack top trends this evening

Date:

English Premier League and local politics continue to dominate Kenya’s social space.
Here are the top 10 trending topics

Arsenal
Arsenal is still trending over yesterday’s clash with Manchester United at Emirates stadium that resulted in a 3-2 loss, their first at home since May last year.

ARSMUN
This hashtag is mostly used during Arsenal vs Manchester United matches. It has been trending since Sunday when the two teams met at the Emirates stadium.
Many of the accompanying posts are mostly on yesterday’s refereeing decisions.

UDA Scorecard
Linked to Kenya’s ruling United Democratic Alliance, the hashtag has Kenyans debating the government’s performance- promises made vs delivery.
“In the 2022 UDA manifesto, we made a commitment to the people of Kenya to transform our country and their lives by investing in agriculture, making affordable credit accessible, creating millions of jobs, and implementing universal healthcare, among others,” President William Ruto shared after the party’s National Governing Council meeting at State House, Nairobi.

Manchester United
The team has been trending alongside Arsenal following yesterday’s match at the Emirates stadium, plus the progress the interim manager Michael Carrick was making.

DeliveringThePromise

This is a government slogan used by the Kenya Kwanza administration and mostly trends when leaders defend their achievements.
“President William Ruto’s UDA administration is all about results, not noise, from infrastructure upgrades to real, measurable progress. While others talk, the President stays focused on what matters most: work. Simply put, he is busy #DeliveringThePromise he made to Kenyans,” Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi shared.

Gachagua
The former Deputy President and DCP party leader has been trending since yesterday’s Othaya church teargas drama that he claimed was an attempt on his life.
He has demanded action against police officers who lobbed teargas canisters at the Nyeri Church.

DigitalHealthServices

This is linked to Kenya’s health reforms under the Social Health Authority. Kenyans have been reacting to registration issues, rollout and access concerns.
“The Digital Health Agency is transforming healthcare delivery by integrating innovative digital technologies that improve access, strengthen patient outcomes, and safeguard health data across Kenya,” Mwala Kapkembu shared online.

Othaya
One of the constituencies in Nyeri County- Othaya is trending following yesterday’s teargassing of a local Church where Opposition leader Rigathi Gachagua was attending a service.
Kenyans have castigated the police officers who lobbed teargas on innocent faithful, with some of the government officials including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen condemning the act and directing thorough probe into it.

Powered By DHA
Also related to the Digital Health Authority (DHA), the hashtag is mainly being used to drive conversation around the new health insurance framework and digital healthcare transition.

Cunha
This is about Manchester United Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha, who scored the late winner in Sunday’s clash against Arsenal at the Emirates stadium.

Arteta
