Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said security agencies have identified key individuals behind the attacks and warned that they would be pursued through intelligence-led operations.
Speaking in Lolmolok, Suguta Ward in Samburu County after a consultative meeting with local leaders and security officials, Murkomen said the government would not spare anyone found supporting banditry.
“We know where you are, and we will come for you. Through intelligence-led operations, we will find you wherever you are, regardless of who you are, and we must deal with you,” Murkomen said.
Fresh Security Operation
Murkomen announced that the new operation will be led by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and will focus on dismantling criminal networks responsible for financing livestock theft and violent attacks.
He also appealed to residents in Samburu, neighbouring Baringo and Isiolo counties to voluntarily surrender illegal firearms before security officers begin the crackdown.
According to the Cabinet Secretary, the operation is intended to restore security, enable displaced families to return to their homes and create lasting peace in the region.
“What we did in other parts of Kerio Valley is what we are going to do here until this area is peaceful,” he said.
More Police Reservists and Infrastructure
As part of the government’s security plan, Murkomen announced that more National Police Reservists (NPR) will be recruited to strengthen security operations in the affected areas.
The government will also invest in critical infrastructure, including new security installations, improved road networks and expanded mobile phone coverage to enhance surveillance and emergency response.
“We will also vet the National Police Reservists in the area and increase their number even as we build roads, security installations and mobile network coverage,” Murkomen said.
Leaders Back Government Crackdown
The meeting was attended by Inspector General Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, GSU Commandant Johana Tonui and other senior government officials.
Also present were Samburu Governor Jonathan Lelelit, Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda, Samburu North MP Eli Letipila, former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal and members of the Samburu County Assembly led by Suguta Ward MCA James Leleruk.
The government says the latest operation builds on previous security interventions in the North Rift and is expected to disrupt bandit networks while restoring stability in some of Kenya’s most insecurity-prone regions.
