ODM Party distances itself from activities of Raila’s “adopted son” Oketch Salah.

Date:

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has distanced itself from activities and statements by Oketch Salah, clarifying that he acts strictly in his personal capacity and does not represent the party.

In a statement posted on its X account on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the party emphasised that all official ODM activities must be channelled through the Party Secretariat with approval from the party leadership.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) wishes to clarify that any activities, statements, or engagements undertaken by Mr Oketch Salah are carried out strictly in his personal capacity and do not represent or bind the Orange Democratic Movement in any way,” the statement signed by National Chairperson Gladys Wanga read.

ODM stated that all official party programs and engagements are undertaken with the approval and guidance of the party leadership, headed by Party Leader Oburu Oginga.

All official ODM activities, programs, and engagements are channelled through the Party Secretariat and are undertaken with the approval and guidance of the Party leadership, headed by Dr Oburu Odinga,” the party stated.

The party warned grassroots leaders, members, and supporters against organising activities in the name of ODM without prior consultation and approval.

“Grassroots leaders, members, and supporters are therefore advised that no activities should be organised or conducted in the name of ODM without prior consultation and approval from the Party leadership and the Secretariat,” the statement added.

ODM reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order and discipline within its structures.

“The Party remains committed to order, discipline, and structured engagement in the pursuit of its objectives,” the Party concluded.

The clarification comes hours after an event organised by Oketch Salah at KICC, in Nairobi, featured participants dressed in ODM colours wearing President William Ruto’s image on party merchandise.

Reacting to the event, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi questioned the decision to print President William Ruto’s image on the party merchandise, demanding to know when the party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) approved the move.

In a statement posted on his X account on Thursday, February 6, 2026, Amisi directed his questions to ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga, expressing frustration over what he perceived as the party’s capitulation to the ruling administration.

When did (ODM) NDC meet and approve that our t-shirts and caps to be printed with Ruto’s image? When was this one approved, Dr Oburu Odinga?” Amisi asked.
