The United States Embassy in Kenya has officially launched the Freedom 250 Festival Tour at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), marking the beginning of a nationwide initiative aimed at empowering young people through technology, innovation and career mentorship.
The programme brings together students, innovators, entrepreneurs and industry professionals in an interactive platform designed to expose youth to emerging technologies and future career opportunities.
The launch event attracted thousands of students who participated in technology showcases, artificial intelligence demonstrations, robotics exhibitions, drone racing, virtual reality experiences and entrepreneurship clinics.
According to the U.S. Embassy, the multi-campus tour will culminate in celebrations scheduled for July 4 as part of activities marking the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States.
Students Exposed to Emerging Technologies
Speaking during the launch, U.S. Embassy Acting Public Affairs Officer Drew Giblin said the initiative is focused on inspiring young people and equipping them with practical skills relevant to the modern economy.
“JKUAT reflects the creativity, innovation and energy shaping Kenya’s future. This tour is designed to help young people explore opportunities, build skills and connect with mentorship and technology,” Giblin said.
The university grounds were transformed into interactive experience zones where students explored flight simulators, esports competitions, podcasting workshops, coding sessions and creative arts exhibitions.
Participants also received mentorship on entrepreneurship, CV writing, digital innovation and professional development from industry experts and facilitators.
Tour to Reach More Universities
Organisers said the Freedom 250 Tour will continue in several universities across the country, including Machakos University, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and the University of Nairobi.
The embassy noted that the programme seeks to strengthen educational and cultural exchanges between Kenya and the United States while promoting innovation-driven collaboration among young people.
Students participating in the tour will also compete in innovation and creative challenges, with winners set to receive prizes including technology gadgets, mentorship opportunities and sponsored experiences.
Focus on Youth Empowerment and Innovation
The launch comes at a time when universities and institutions globally are increasingly embracing artificial intelligence, robotics and digital entrepreneurship as key drivers of economic growth and employment creation.
The U.S. Embassy said the initiative is intended to help students gain exposure to technologies shaping the future workforce while encouraging creativity, leadership and innovation.
Organisers expressed optimism that the programme will inspire the next generation of Kenyan innovators, entrepreneurs and technology leaders by connecting them with practical learning experiences and global opportunities.
The final event of the Freedom 250 Tour is expected to coincide with America’s Independence Day celebrations on July 4.
