Kenya Power announces scheduled electricity interruptions in multiple counties today

Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions in several parts of the country on Thursday, May 21, 2026, as the utility company continues with maintenance and network improvement works.

The scheduled outages will affect parts of Nairobi, Makueni, Kilifi, Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, Nyeri, and Laikipia counties.

Nairobi County

In Nairobi, areas in Karen and along parts of Lang’ata Road will experience power interruptions from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Affected areas include Karen Well Mall, Mokoyet East and West, Nyumba Moja Road, Mukinduri Road, Forest Edge, Nairobi Academy, Japanese School, Langata North Road, Rubis Energy, Liberty Centre, and surrounding customers.

Makueni County

Parts of Makueni town and nearby trading centres will also be affected between 8.30 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Areas listed include Mulala Market, Kithumani Market, Muangini Market, Wautu Market, Kyambeke Level 4 Hospital, Kalamba Fruit Factory, Kilili Market, and adjacent customers.

Kilifi County

In Kilifi County, electricity supply will be interrupted in parts of Kikambala from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Areas expected to be affected include Pwani Oil Water Treatment, Sun N Sand, Fairdeal Park, Mtwapa Pri, North Coast Beach Hotel, Safari Sana Ltd, Kwa Kariuki, Coast Breeze, and nearby customers.

Other areas in Lungalunga and Vanga will also experience outages during the same period.

Mombasa County

In Mombasa County, the blackout will affect Kilima Road, VOK, Bombolulu, and Bandari areas from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Among the areas listed are Kongowea, Old Mugo ya Ngombe, Bombolulu Workshop, Bandari Quarters, Marianist Catholic Church, Hakika Flats, and surrounding estates.

Uasin Gishu County

In the North Rift region, parts of Uasin Gishu County including Ngecheck, Ngeria, and Ndubenet will be affected from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Affected institutions and centres include Ngeria Girls, Koros Secondary School, Tegut, Kapngetuny, and nearby customers.

Kakamega County

In Western Kenya, parts of Malava and West Kenya Sugar areas in Kakamega County will experience outages from 8.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Areas listed include Samitsi, Malanga, Malava Market, Kambiri Mwanza Market, Shamberere, West Kenya Sugar, Ileho, and surrounding customers.

Nyeri County

Parts of Nyeri County around Kiganjjo Police College will also be affected between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Affected areas include Kiganjjo Police College, Maisha Millers, Kiganjo Cereals Board, KCC Kiganjo, Chaka Town, Kagumo High School, and Karunda Market.

Laikipia County

In Laikipia County, areas including Likii, Kangaita, Kalalu, and Umande will experience power interruptions from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Kenya Power said the planned maintenance works are aimed at improving reliability and stabilising electricity supply across the affected regions.

Residents and businesses in the listed areas have been advised to plan accordingly during the interruption period.
