Kenya Power announces scheduled power interruptions across multiple counties today

Date:

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company has announced planned electricity outages affecting several regions across the country today, Thursday, April 2, 2026, as part of routine maintenance and system upgrades.

The interruptions, expected to run between morning and evening hours, will impact parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa, Bungoma, Bomet, and Nyeri counties.

Nairobi and Kiambu Among Most Affected

In the Nairobi region, outages will affect Thome and Pipeline-Kware areas from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Residents along Mirema Drive, USIU, and surrounding estates should expect disruptions.

Similarly, parts of Kiambu County including Juja and Bob Harries Road will experience outages within the same timeframe. Areas such as Kiaora Farm, Mangu Road, and Gatukuyu Market are among those listed.

Coastal and Western Regions Hit

In Mombasa County, power supply will be interrupted in Jomvu and Alidina areas, affecting key industrial zones including Synergy Gases and Mombasa Ashton Apparel.

Meanwhile, parts of Bungoma County—specifically Mayanja, Kimaeti, and Miluki—will face outages between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Rift Valley and Central Kenya Areas

In Bomet County, Kaplong and nearby markets such as Soimet and Kamureito will be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Parts of Nyeri County will also experience extended outages starting earlier at 8:00 a.m. Areas including Mweiga, Kamatongu, Kamune, Kaharo, and Thuita are among those listed.

Why the Power Interruptions?

Kenya Power says the outages are necessary to facilitate maintenance works, upgrade power lines, and improve reliability of electricity supply.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to plan accordingly and take precautionary measures, including protecting electrical appliances from potential surges once power is restored.

Safety Advisory

The utility company has urged the public to treat all power lines as live during the maintenance period and avoid interfering with electrical infrastructure.
