Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Deputy Party Leader Oburu Oginga has ruled out any possibility of the party entering into a political alliance with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an ODM gathering at Kirembe Grounds in Kisumu County, Oburu said the party would only engage in partnerships founded on shared interests, mutual respect, and political equality.
The veteran politician made it clear that ODM would not support coalition arrangements that compromise the party’s identity or place it in a subordinate position.
“I cannot take ODM supporters into an alliance with Gachagua,” Oburu told supporters, drawing loud reactions from the crowd.
ODM Eyes Strategic Alliances
Oburu indicated that the party was focused on strengthening existing political partnerships, particularly within the broad-based government framework, while positioning itself for future electoral success.
He noted that ODM would work with political formations whose values align with the party’s vision and development agenda.
According to him, any future coalition discussions must guarantee equal participation and recognition of all partners involved.
Call for Party Unity
The ODM leader also urged party members to remain united as political realignments begin taking shape ahead of the next election cycle.
Addressing thousands of supporters, Oburu described the Luo community as a key pillar of ODM and called on members to safeguard the party’s strength by avoiding internal divisions.
“We must remain united because unity is the foundation of our political influence and our future success,” he said.
He further expressed confidence that ODM would remain a formidable political force in the 2027 elections.
Rally Reaffirms Support for Broad-Based Government
The Kisumu meeting also served as a platform for ODM leaders to reaffirm their support for the broad-based government arrangement and outline the party’s political direction.
Resolutions adopted during the rally stated that residents of the Nyanza region would continue advancing their political interests through ODM while supporting decisions made by the party’s governing structures.
The gathering endorsed the party’s current leadership, including Chairperson Gladys Wanga and Deputy Party Leaders Simba Arati and Ahmed Abdullahi Mohamed.
Focus on 2027 Power Quest
ODM leaders reiterated their commitment to remaining part of the broad-based government while simultaneously building political partnerships aimed at securing power in future elections.
The party also called for the full implementation of the 10-point cooperation framework agreed upon under the broad-based arrangement, including addressing unresolved issues affecting victims of past post-election violence.
In addition, ODM paid tribute to party leader Raila Odinga, praising his role in championing constitutional reforms, devolution, democracy, and strong county governments.
Party officials described Raila as a transformative political figure whose ideals continue to guide ODM’s vision and strategy as the country moves toward the 2027 General Election.
