Planned power interruptions to affect Nairobi, Coast, Western and Mt Kenya regions on Tuesday

Thousands of customers across several counties are expected to experience planned electricity interruptions on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, as maintenance works continue on the power distribution network.

The scheduled outages will affect parts of Nairobi, Makueni, Uasin Gishu, Siaya, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Kilifi and Kwale counties between 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Nairobi Areas to Experience Day-Long Outages

In Nairobi, the whole of Airport North Road area will be affected from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Areas expected to experience the interruption include Nyayo Estate Phase 1, Embakasi Jua Kali, Baraka Estate, Simba Estate, Airport Staff Quarters, Embakasi Police, Donholm Phase 8, Harambee Sacco Estate, Jacaranda Estate, Oyster Estate, Green Span Mall and parts of Soweto.

Other affected areas in the capital include Kasarani, where Garden City, Uhai Neema, KISE, ICIPE, Kasarani Police, Sports View Hotel, Clay City and Seasons areas will experience outages.

Parts of Kilimani will also be affected, including sections of Jabavu Road, Lenana Road, Mtito Andei Road and surrounding estates.

Residents and businesses around Makueni Road and Othaya Road are also expected to experience electricity interruptions during the maintenance period.

Counties Across the Country Also Affected

In Makueni County, parts of Sultan Town and nearby markets including Kasikeu, Kavuthu, Nduluni and Mutyambua will be without electricity during the scheduled maintenance works.

In Uasin Gishu County, customers in Imbinga, Ivugwi and Likuyani areas including Everglade, Lugulu, St. Francis, Mapera, Sango, Mawe Tatu, Soysambu and Kongoni will also be affected.

Western Region customers in Siaya County will experience outages in Akala Market, Kaudha Primary School, Kaudha Gold, Wangbith Primary School, Opande Primary School, Ojola and nearby areas.

In Kirinyaga County, the interruption will affect Githure Market and surrounding centres including Gakuyu-ini Coffee Factory, Kiandumu Market, Kamwana Market, Ngariama Secondary School and St. Mary’s Polytechnic.

Meanwhile, parts of Nyeri County including Munyu, Warazo Jet, Kimahuri, Ndathi and Mountain Lodge Hotel areas are also listed for the planned outage.

Coast Region Among Areas Affected

In Kilifi County, parts of Kibokoni including Ocean Ports, King Fisher, Afraid Hospital and Majivuni areas will experience power interruptions.

Kwale Town and surrounding areas including the county offices, Kwale Referral Hospital, Golini and Ziwani will also be affected during the maintenance exercise.

Residents are advised to plan ahead, charge essential devices in advance and take necessary precautions during the outage period.
