The government has unveiled a sweeping development agenda in Nyamira County, anchored on education, housing, and water access, with Kithure Kindiki outlining key investments during a tour led by William Ruto.
“The Government is investing 1.3 billion shillings to construct student hostels in Nyamira County to provide decent living spaces for more than 3,000 students studying in various colleges and institutions of higher learning,” Kindiki said.
Boost for Health Training Institutions
The government is also strengthening the health sector by investing in training institutions to produce more qualified professionals.
“To boost the pool of qualified, skilled and market ready professionals in the health sector, the Government is upgrading and equipping medical training institutions and recruiting additional tutors to accommodate more learners,” Kindiki stated.

KMTC Nyamira Expansion Project
At the centre of the initiative is the expansion of the Kenya Medical Training College Nyamira campus.
“The Government will also build 20 classrooms and five laboratories for the institution to ease congestion and facilitate access to quality education for the students,” Kindiki added.
The project includes a 580-bed hostel officially launched by President Ruto, aimed at improving student welfare and learning conditions.

Affordable Housing Programme Gains Momentum
Kindiki further revealed that Nyamira is benefiting significantly from the national housing agenda.
“In total, 9 billion shillings is being spent on the Affordable Housing Programme in Nyamira County, creating thousands of jobs and income opportunities for residents, especially the youth,” he said.
Clean Water Project to Benefit Thousands
The development push also includes critical water infrastructure aimed at improving public health and livelihoods.
“The President also launched the Nyamira Last Mile Water Project that will supply clean water to over 15,000 residents at a cost of 450 million shillings,” Kindiki noted.
A Broader Development Vision
The projects highlight a coordinated government strategy to uplift communities through targeted investments in education, housing, and essential services.
With billions already committed, the focus now shifts to implementation and ensuring that these projects deliver lasting impact for residents of Nyamira County.
