KPLC announces planned power outages in nine counties on Tuesday, July 14

Residents and businesses in nine counties should prepare for planned electricity interruptions on Tuesday, July 14, after the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) announced scheduled outages to allow routine maintenance of its electricity distribution network.

In a public notice issued on Monday, KPLC said the temporary power interruptions are necessary to improve the reliability and stability of electricity supply.

The scheduled maintenance will affect parts of Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Bungoma, Nyeri, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Kwale, Kilifi and Mombasa counties, with outages expected to last between four and eight hours depending on the location.

Trans Nzoia County

Power will be interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Aturukan, Kibomet and Kapcheplanget.

Areas expected to experience the outage include Aturukan Hotel, Mt. Elgon Dairies, Sinendet Centre, Kibomet Primary School, Bishop Yego, Sirwo Resort, Mwaita Primary School, Tuigoin Centre, Kiptenden, Kuriot, Parkera, Murgoiyo and neighbouring customers.

Kisumu and Bungoma counties

In Kisumu County, electricity will be unavailable from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. around the Shajanand Quarry area.

Affected customers include Shajanand Quarry, Ujenzi Quarry, Obambo, Ober Kamoth Health Centre, Galore, Paga Beach, Kabibi, Ogal Beach, Ahuodho Beach and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Bungoma County will experience a planned outage from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. around Sikata Market and Bungoma Children’s Hospital.

Nyeri, Embu and Tharaka Nithi

Several areas in Nyeri County will be affected between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The first outage covers Bellevue and Gatarakwa, while the second will affect Witima, Kagumo, Ichamama Coffee Factory, Gaikundo Coffee Factory, Gatugi Market, Ichambugi Market, Ngechu Centre, Kiruga Coffee Factory, Kiamuya Secondary School, Gikira Hydro Power and nearby locations.

In Embu County, electricity will be interrupted from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Muthatari, Mugoya, Prisons and Kamiu.

Customers likely to be affected include Embu Prisons, Joykim Hospital, Tenri Hospital, NCPB, NTSA offices, Mugoya Police Station, Karurina Market and neighbouring areas.

In Tharaka Nithi County, power will be unavailable from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Igamatundu, affecting schools, health facilities and surrounding villages.

Coast region also affected

In Kwale County, electricity will be interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Buga Village and Neptune, including Mandago, Mwisho wa Lami, Almanara, Lantana Galu, Sonrisa and Chale Island.

In Kilifi County, customers in Sun n Sand and Kikambala will experience power interruptions between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Areas affected include Fairdeal Park, Umbrella Steel, Swati Investment, Mega Apparel, Safe Pack, Revital, North Coast Beach Hotel and nearby premises.

In Mombasa County, the planned maintenance will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Jiwe la Kuvuka and Timbwani.

The outage will affect Kwetu Beach, Timbwani Catholic, Maji Safi, Mbuyuni, Mwahima Secondary School, Millennium 2, Sharks, Kwa Doro, Brazil, Pungu Villa, Nuru and surrounding customers.

KPLC advises customers to plan ahead

Kenya Power has advised customers in the affected areas to plan their activities accordingly during the maintenance period.

The utility company regularly carries out scheduled maintenance to upgrade electricity infrastructure, replace faulty equipment and improve the reliability of power supply across the country.
